Nobody likes to be pushed around, or suddenly hit on the way to class, or in general get hurt in the hallways. But sometimes in school, when students are walking through the halls trying to get to their classes, lots of students find that they get pushed around. This is probably because of the crowds and the people who don’t watch where they're going. Not just that, but some of the inappropriate language people use around the school isn’t what you would call proper hallway etiquette.
6th grader Genevieve Haley-Goldman has had some experience with this issue. She leaned down to pick up something when a boy was not watching where he was going and he stepped on her and hurt her. This impact had a negative effect on her, and this is why proper hallway etiquette is so important to follow. This could lead to something dangerous, and I’m sure no one wants that.
It's possible you might not get hurt, but others can. Also, it prevents awkward and dangerous situations like Genevieve’s from happening! But another problem we're having is when people play tag in the hallway. Tag is an outdoor activity only for outside not when the hallway is full of people that you could hurt. Lots of people have seen it happen to others too! It’s very important to watch out for others, or this could happen to you. And, that’s not all. The way people act around others isn’t appropriate for school. After all, how would you like it if someone pushed you to the ground while you were walking through the halls? Also there is a lot of curse words and foul language.
According to Mrs. Bradley, security assistant, this year has been best with hallway etiquette so far. She also said that she agrees with the one way stairs, even though it takes much longer for the students on the third floor to get to the second floor. Eighth grader Alanna Sibrian agrees with Ms. Bradley. The stairs are a good idea, but we should start having hallway monitors for the stairs and hall to prevent traffic jams and swear words, along with the pushing to prevent all this from occurring.
Ms. Becker, one of the 6th grade counselors, said, “ Well, I think that it’s very unfortunate that anyone gets hurt.” She wants us to watch out for others and be cautious of our surroundings. Teachers see this happen outside their offices and our classrooms every day.
After all, how would you like it if someone pushed you to the ground while you were walking through the halls?
