JADE Student Edition 2019 JADE JSLUG 2019 | Seite 124
Editor's Epilogue
Greetings JADE readers,
Diversity…..It`s a word used a great deal in the university
environment and it can mean a lot of different things to
different people. In one context, it bring to mind images of
mixed populations of staff and/or students. In another context
it could be describing the range of exams that a module offers
and in yet another context it could be referring to hiring policies
in relation to human resourcing. For such a big word, “the
devil is in the detail” as the old saying goes and with this detail
comes a responsibility when using this word that it is correctly
and fairly applied to whatever context it`s being used in.

What was the point of that last paragraph? Well, when I say
there is a diversity of context in this very special JSLUG edition,
I don`t want anyone confusing the purpose inherent in me
using that word or the connotations it now brings. Typically,
JADE offers a good range of learning and teaching focussed
articles but the annual JSLUG edition is on a whole other level
when being described like this and can truly be described as
“diverse”.

You have on your screens an inspiration of riches which are
people’s passions and academic endeavours made manifest. I
always seem to use the word “quality” when I get to do these
JSLUG final editorials and every year it`s more and more a
truism. The efforts and talent that these authors showcase
at the live SLUG event and then again in these conference
proceedings are a testament to the diverse (see, I used it again
in a different context!) range of disciplines as well as a spectrum
of writers are various points within their studies at Keele.

From the sensationally titled “invasion” of rhododendron
species and their impact on Keele campus to “Maths Anxiety” as
a thing that exists to Dark Triad characteristics linked with social
media engagements, each article in this bumper edition comes
across with novel perspectives, flavourful writing and creative
thinking.
It is my great pleasure to end this edition with a call to engage
with the next JSLUG live event and to extend the customary
invitation to also consider writing for next year’s edition, having
now seen a diverse (last time, promise!) offering of both scope
and effort rewarded in these pages and now shared with the
world.
Until next year.
Dr. Russell Crawford
