A $ 72 million project to modernize SSA ’ s Jacksonville Container Terminal at Blount Island is over halfway complete .
The business leases over 170 acres at Jaxport and handles delivery and processing for multiple vehicle brands including Audi , General Motors , Honda , Porsche and Volkswagen . AMPORTS ’ leases for its properties at the Blount Island and Dames Point marine terminal were each extended in 2019 for 25 years with two five-year renewals .
“ When we have additional needs , the port has been very accommodating to find us additional land within their longterm plans … Having those solution sets , having that flex , having that vision enables you to continue to attract large OEM [ original equipment manufacturer ] players to Jacksonville . “ It ’ s that flex and the ability to react to market needs , and do it in a timely , dynamic fashion , that continues to build the reputation of Jacksonville ,” he added .
As the third-largest automobile port in the US , Jaxport plans to further develop its auto-handling capabilities by expanding one of its two dedicated automobile berths to handle two ships at a time while the other will be expanded to handle larger or roll-on / roll-off ( ro / ro )
