A Note from the Chair

The days are getting warmer and longer , at last — spring is here .
In this season of new growth and renewal , EllieB ’ s is embracing the constant challenges of this sector — a new federal government , and so far , some welcome new attitudes from that quarter , and acknowledgements of the hard work we ’ ve done and the challenges faced by our clients .
I know we are all excited to see the redevelopment of the Davoren Park site , and as the work progresses , there will be regular updates and photographs so that we can all be part of this exciting journey .
It seems Covid is now something we must learn to live with and manage — and again I thank Wendy for her leadership and preparation in this regard . We all know what to do and how to be as safe as we can because of her vigilance and constant reminders .
Take some time to enjoy the warmer days outdoors , I ’ m grateful we can have that freedom again .

I had hoped to inform you of a positive outcome to my Daughters Administrative Appeals Tribunal ( AAT ) but unfortunately we do not have a decision at this time . The NDIS has asked for more evidence to support our appeal even though we had forwarded an abundance of paperwork . Trying to communicate via a three way phone conversation was not easy . Good things happen to those who wait , so I am hoping for the best result .
The Labor government introduced the NDIS and as they are back in government again , I am hopeful they will deliver on their promise to make it the agency it was meant to be .
I am pleased to advise that I was almost successful in using all of my daughter ’ s NDIS budget . The core budget is probably the most difficult as this can cover a variety of things . We had not made use of all of her community access for various reasons so a short holiday with her housemate and staff for 4 days to the Barossa Valley was organised . Although a little cold , they both had a wonderful time . Two things that she enjoyed immensely was lunch at a 60 ’ s cafe including a large cut-out of Elvis Presley and other decorations from that era . Something to please her sweet tooth was a High Tea at one of the wineries . A holiday can lift your spirits and it worked well as she was a perfect angel while away . Thanks to the staff that made it an enjoyable holiday for both girls .
The Carer Advisory Group are here for you , however some ideas from clients of what you think you would like us to do , arrange or assist with would help us . If you have any ideas please ring me on 0411483976 or email 7982726d @ tpg . com . au .
