IWIRC hosted its 23rd Annual Fall Conference on October 25th and 26th at the Marriott Marquis hotel in the downtown area of iconic San Francisco. The opening reception of 350 attendees was hosted at the SoMa Reception Space, named after the hotel’s location, South of Market. IWIRC members from around the world mixed and mingled with old friends and new, along with bankruptcy judges from around the country.

The 145 conference attendees were welcomed the following morning with goody bags, each of which included a beautiful pashmina in IWIRC’s emblematic purple color, adorned with a classy and subtle embroidered IWIRC logo. Throughout the conference and in the following days of NCBJ, it was easy to spot fellow IWIRC members by their pashminas.

As always, the educational programming was engaging and informative. First, we heard about International Investors – Where in the World is the Money Coming From? Debra Grassgreen (Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones) moderated a panel of experts on the subject: Suzzanne Uhland (O’Melveny & Myers), Michael P. Murphy (AlixPartners), and Malainy Xia (Phoenix Capital Resources). The panel discussed the current trends in foreign direct investment (FDI), including countries of origin, industries in which the money is being invested, and some of the agencies and rules in place to monitor and regulate FDI.
