2. Silent Hill
In at 2 is the Silent Hill franchise. The original, back in 1999, was a true innovation to the horror genre in video games. It introduced a truly, psychological deep terror and narrative that was unheard of in the medium before.
It has continued to push boundaries to this day with its twisted, visuals and creepy tones throughout. The sound design is impeccable, anyone who’s interested should check out the soundtracks to these games. Try Akira Yamaoka's Room Of Angel, it’s fantastic.
The games of late have grown a little stale, due to them not being created by the original creators. They’ve almost become a parody of themselves; I do hold out hope for the future though. The previously mentioned P.T. on this list is actually not a real game, but is in fact, an experiment for a new Silent Hill directed by Guillermo Del Toro. If the new Silent Hill is half as scary, then the new game will be awesome.
Anyone interested in playing these games should start with Silent Hill 2; it’s a completely stand-alone story in the series and also in my opinion, the best.
