ANONIMO
Epurato
THIS ITALIAN-INFLUENCED MAKER known for its sporty watches adds
a third collection called Epurato. While the new collection retains Anonimo’s
well-known cushion-case, Epurato marks a turn for the elegant with both a
smaller case diameter and a traditional crown location at 3 o’clock.
Still, Anonimo elegance doesn’t mean the new collection offers an ultra-
thin profile or a minimalist dial. In the new Epurato, the Florentine-founded
company continues to echo many of the characteristics that endear it to
its fan base. Notably, the 42mm case in this debut piece is bronze, a case
metal Anonimo helped popularize since it began offering bronze-cased dive
watches in 2006.
Remember that bronze ages by reacting to its environment. Over time the
case gains a patina that personalizes each watch. Clearly Anonimo is proud
of its bronze cases. After all how many brands debut the very first watch of a
new collection in bronze.
There are several other items here that retain Anonimo’s carefully consid-
ered homage to Florentine design. Epurato’s dial is distinctly Anonimo with
its large Arabic 12, 4 and 8, set to trace a triangle across its broad dial. There’s
a crown guard here as well, echoing Anonimo’s Nautilo collection. It’s just that
with the new Epurato, Anonimo plays it traditional with a crown at 3 o’clock
instead of at 4 o’clock as on its Nautilo collection, or at noon, as seen on Anoni-
mo’s Militaire line. The new watch’s cushion case also offers a fluted bezel that
nicely complements the bronze case’s alternating satin and polished shiny
surfaces. The Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, visible in part through a
transparent caseback, shows a beaded movement endowed with a skeleton-
ized and Côtes de Genève- decorated rotor. Price: $3,185.
