Battle : Educator / Pearl Soror
Camp Springs , MD – Soror Nona Elaine Battle became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on November 12 , 2020 . Soror Battle received a bachelor ' s degree in elementary education from Miner Teacher ' s College in Washington , DC and was initiated in Beta Lambda Chapter in 1949 . She was employed by the DC public schools and served as a teacher and counselor for more than 38 years until her retirement . She believed strongly in education and encouraged everyone she knew to pursue one . She was an active member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Washington , DC . Soror Battle was a pearl member of Iota Gamma Omega Chapter in Lanham , MD and served on many committees . She was most passionate about the chapter ' s community service programs . Soror Battle was preceded in death by her husband , Walter ; her son , Terrence ; and daughter , Soror April Battle . She leaves to cherish her memory her grandson Terrence Battle Jr ., granddaughter , Kymberleigh Battle , great-granddaughter Aaliyah Jackson , and a host of extended family , friends , and sorors .
Bingham : Retired Educator / Pearl Soror / Life Member
Chicago , IL – Pearl Soror Argie Shannon Bingham became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Bingham was initiated into Gamma Rho Chapter at Jackson State University in 1955 and was a member of Theta Omega Chapter in Chicago , Ill . She graduated from Jackson State University with a BS in education , beginning her teaching career in Jackson , MS , and later retiring from the Chicago Public School system after 39 years of service . She was passionate about supporting students and founded Bingham Human Services , a non-profit organization dedicated to students . The organization awarded numerous scholarships for college bound students for service and community involvement . She was an active member of St . Albie Catholic Church , serving as a lay minister . Soror Bingham was preceded in death by her husband JC Bingham ; and leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Jeri , step-children , grandchildren and great grandchildren , nieces , cousins , and a host of friends and sorors .
Baxter : Retired Educator
Orangeburg , SC – Soror Elease Hampton Baxter became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on July 4 , 2020 . She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church , in Cobb County , Georgia . Soror Baxter attended Claflin College ( now Claflin University ) in Orangeburg , SC where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and was initiated into Gamma Nu Chapter . She worked for the Orangeburg County Schools as a paraprofessional for over 15 years until her retirement . Soror Baxter worked on various political campaigns and advocated for improvements and services in her area of town . She was a member of the County Council on Aging , planning commission member , and patriot member of the Women ' s VFW . Soror Baxter continued to work for her community and church until her death . She is preceded in death by her husband , Wallace Baxter , Sr . She leaves to cherish her memory four children , 10 grandchildren , 14 great-grandchildren , and one sister .
Bibbs : Executive / Community Activist / Life Member
Lansing , MI – Soror Martha Merle Bibbs became an Ivy Beyond the Wall October 2020 . She was initiated in Delta Tau Omega Chapter in 1989 and was a life member . She served faithfully on chapter committees including protocol , music , tellers , Founders ' Day , rituals , senior salute and scholarship . Soror Bibbs earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology from Michigan State University . She completed Harvard University ' s John F . Kennedy Program for senior executives in state and local government , and strategic uses of technology program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . She was the first woman and African American appointed state personnel director for the Michigan Civil Service Commission . An appointee of Governor Jim Blanchard , Soror Bibbs shaped and led the implementation of policies for over 70,000 employees , managed a budget of $ 30 million , and directed a staff of 300 . She was founding board chairman for Building Child & Family Initiatives , formerly Black Child & Family Institute , alumnae member of Lansing / East Lansing Links , Inc ., and a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church .
Black : State Representative / Social Worker / Golden Soror
Durham , NC – Soror MaryAnn Eaddy Black became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 25 , 2020 . She was initiated into the Psi Chapter in 1963 . Soror Black obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in English at Benedict College and a master ’ s degree in social work at UNC-Chapel Hill . Soror Black worked as an accomplished clinical social worker for more than 30 years and was named Social Worker of the Year by the state of NC and the National Association of Social Workers . Soror Black served in the NC General Assembly representing District 29 . She was a member of Alpha Zeta Omega Chapter and used her talents to assist with the connections committee as well . Soror Black was preceded in death by her father , Reverend Dr . Solomon Eaddy , Sr .; son , Mr . James " Christopher " Black ; and brother , Frederick Eaddy . She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son Jonathon C . Black ; grandson , daughter-in love , mother , brother , and sister .
Bland : Counselor / Silver Star
Baltimore , MD – Soror Addie Bland became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Bland was initiated into Iota Lambda Omega on June 8 , 1985 . She later transferred to Epsilon Omega Chapter . She was a counselor at Western High School . At the time of her passing , she was a member of Epsilon Omega Chapter , serving on local committees . She was preceded in death by her husband , Harry Bland ; parents , Thomas and Addie Redd Jackson ; siblings , Chester Jackson , Jeanette Moore and Louise Johnson . She is survived by two nephews ; three nieces ; a host of grand , great-grand nephews and nieces ; cousins , sorors and friends .
