Cervical Cancer Program ( IBCCP ) initiatives . The AKArama Foundation Coalition team conducted a literature review to begin developing a novel approach to reduce the breast cancer disparity among Black women in Chicago . The literature review identified a need for community organizations to provide community education and lead community advocacy and legislation efforts around breast cancer information in the Black community . The literature review was submitted to the American Public Health Association ( APHA ), who honored the AKArama Foundation Coalition for the submission which was posted for the 15,000 conference attendees to view .
Xi Nu Omega Helps Kenyan Girls Stay in School
Chicago , IL – Xi Nu Omega Chapter donated $ 3,000 to the Mombasa Relief Initiative ( MRI ) in Mombasa , Kenya , to pay for underwear and feminine hygiene products for three years for 300 girls . Young ladies in Kenya and other developing countries often miss several days of school each month when they are menstruating . Sorors met MRI ' s Girl Power mentoring and empowerment program participants during a video conference . Thirty young girls ages 13 to 16 , recited a poem and talked about their career aspirations . Seven Americans and two Kenyans wanting to help Mombasan children formed the MRI as a nonprofit organization .
Xi Nu Omega donated $ 3,000 to the Mombasa Relief Initiative for Target 2-Women ’ s Healthcare and Wellness and Target 5- Global Impact .
Several visit Kenya twice a year and continue to serve on MRI ' s Board of Directors . Xi Nu Omega sorors participating in the videoconference included Target 2 Subcommittee Chairman Moselean Parker ; Target 5 Subcommittee Chairman Saundra Washington ; Anti-Basileus and Program Chairman Valerie Collins , and Basileus Patricia Y . Smith .
Lambda Tau Omega Holds Economic Legacy Event
Matteson , IL – Lambda Tau Omega hosted a virtual business educational event entitled , " Ingenuity @ Work ." Four topics were covered in this four-week series : Fundamentals of Finance , Marketing Basics Guide 101 , Access to Capitol , and Economic Incentives and Development . The first week ' s presenters were Marcus Yancy of ( LISC ) and Soror Valiciene Arnold , CPS , MAS . Participants were advised to seek proper business advice , formalize a business plan , do a business wellness check , and surround themselves with relationship mentors . Lambda Tau Omega Chapter Target III-Building Your Economic Legacy . spoke about the importance of using marketing strategies to solve business challenges . Vicky Brown , Illinois SBDC Director at the South Suburban Economic Growth Initiative , was the third week ’ s presenter . She spoke on the importance of imagebased marketing and business development plans . During the final week several public officials presented : Illinois Senator Michael Hastings , Soror Lori Wilcox , City Clerk , Sheila Chalmers Currin , Mayor of Matteson and Soror Donna Miller , Cook Counter Commissioner . Senator Hastings shared information on Business Interruption Grants ; Mayor Chalmers Currin discussed plans for commercial development ; Stephanie Luster and Soror Audrey McFarlin are small business owners . Soror Latonya JD Walker chaired this event .
Sigma Phi Omega Supports Local Business Owner
Gary , IN – Sigma Phi Omega Chapter presented " Reading is FUNdamental ." Storytime is a big part of childhood and reading aloud regularly to young children is one of the most effective ways to foster early literacy . Sorors created a Zoom reading activity for the preschoolers of Bright Beginnings Academy in Merrillville , IN . Bright Beginnings is a Black owned and operated childcare facility that provides preschoolers a structured learning environment , Target 3 : Building Your Economic Legacy . Sorors took turns reading a variety of books to the children during " Storytime ." Sorors dressed
in their finest accouterment and festive backgrounds to set the mood . This event was headed by Program Chairman , Enith Walters and Basileus , Carisa Boatman .

Eta Mu Omega Holds Virtual Pink Pop-Up Shop
South Bend , IN – Eta Mu Omega Chapter in South Bend IN , hosted their Virtual Pink Pop-Up Shop event . The event was to support our international program : Building Your Economic Legacy , by highlighting four local small black and women owned businesses . The small businesses showcased items sold on their online websites . Jewelry , stationary , waist beads , and clothing were a few items for participants to purchase . This first virtual online event for sorors helped everyone experience the power of technology in connecting people together , despite the challenges of the pandemic .
