The conference was a success due to partnership with the economic legacy committee . Conference Chairman , Soror Leah Wiggins ( basileus ) and conference Co-chairman , Soror Gwendolyn Tilghman collaborated with Target 3 chairmen ( Sorors Angel Steele , Glenda Freeman , Apryl Fort-Kelly , and Monica Terry ) to execute the virtual event . Additionally , CEAF , Omega Psi Phi Fraternity - Alpha Phi Chapter , HABD , and the Birmingham Urban League .
Upsilon Eta Omega Hosts Virtual L . E . A . D . Voter Education Forum
Birmingham , AL – Upsilon Eta Omega Chapter continued to celebrate its 25th anniversary via the Connection Committee hosting a virtual Voter Education Forum via Zoom . The Forum is under the Alpha Kappa Alpha ' s international program theme of VOTE Election 2020 , AKAs L . E . A . D . ( Learn , Empower , Advocate , and Decide ). The goal of the Forum was to equip the membership with knowledge , tools and information to assist and empower family , friends , neighbors , co-workers and the community with pertinent information regarding voter education , voter registration , voting rights , and voting laws ; thus , encouraging all to VOTE . The Forum was moderated by Soror Jameria Moore , Connection Committee , Chairman . The program presenters were Soror Rolanda Hollis , State of Alabama House of Representatives 58th District ; Soror Brooke Adams , League of Women Voters Board Member ; Soror Maria Hawkins , League of Women Voters , State Board Member ; Soror Ida Tyree-Hyche Hill , Esq ., League of Women Voters , Director of Voter Registration and Soror Jamie Bell , medical doctor , Board Certified Family Medicine . The topics presented were absentee voting / vote-by-mail , Have you been counted ? — Census 2020 , Why do I need to vote ? and protect yourself : wear a mask then vote . Soror Manessa Wilson serves as chapter basileus .
Zeta Eta Omega Celebrates 65 years of Service
Selma , AL – Zeta Eta Omega Chapter celebrated its 65 years of service with a week of activities that included : a city proclamation of recognition by Mayor Darrio Melton , WAKA radio segment honoring the chapter ' s
Celebrating 100 Years of Ivy Leaf ® Magazine history led by Sorors Lou Dale Bryant and Darlene Rudolph , Chat and Chew with the only remaining active charter member , Sarah Craig , sisterly relations activity-kickback Thursday and service project led by Sorors Karen Brown and Elizabeth Rutledge . The week ' s activity ended with a celebratory luncheon honoring the sorority ' s founders and the chapter ' s 65 years of service to the Selma community and surrounding areas . The guest speaker was International Membership Chairman Tracey Morant Adams . The audience was inspired by the words of Soror Morant and entertained by the chapter ' s performance of a play honoring the sorority ’ s founders , directed by Soror Tanya Miles and Golden Soror Nancy Sewell . The luncheon honored eight women who were trailblazers in advocacy , mentorship , education , and politics : Congresswoman Terry Sewell , Lou Dale Bryant , Nancy Sewell , Wanda Goodwin , Joyce O ' Neal , Dr . Verdell Lett Dawson , State Senator Malika Sanders-Fortier and Judge Jo Celeste Pettway . The chapter presented a check for $ 1,000 to the local HBCU , Selma University . There were 200 + in attendance for the luncheon , decorated by Soror Jacinta Bright . Soror Patricia Robinson served as chairman under the leadership of Basileus Karen Brown .

Beta Delta Omega Celebrates 113th Founders ' Day
Jackson , MS – " It ' s a Virtual World : Continuously Excelling After 113 years of Sisterhood and Service " was the theme of the Beta Delta Omega Chapter commemoration of the 113th Founders ' Day . The observance was held with a prerecorded virtual program highlighting and honoring the past and present . We were honored to have video greetings by our Supreme Basileus Glenda Glover and our South Eastern Regional Director Mitzi Dease Paige , both of whom are members of the Beta Delta Omega Chapter . Gamma Omicron Chapter of Tougaloo College , of whom we supervise , joined us in the planning and execution of this event . This was also the first event in the administration of our new Basileus Candie Simmons . The program included an award and monetary donation in recognition of community partners , agencies and organizations we partnered with for each of our five national targets and signature program # CAP SM . An original piece " We Speak Their Names " in tribute of our Founders was written by Soror Kiana Foster . The program was presented via Zoom .
