Eta Eta Omega Holds MLK Teen Symposium
Fort Pierce , FL – Eta Eta Omega Chapter held an inaugural virtual 2021 MLK Teen Symposium " Klass Is in Session " aligns with Target initiatives with over 125 participants . Klass administrator Soror Kirsten Demps and her team led participants in courses for teens . The opening video " Stroll to the Polls " showcased the political activism of the Divine 9 , and their impact in the 2020 election . The second session , " To Catch a Predator : Staying Safe Online ," stressed protecting one ' s online reputation and avoiding cyberbullying , followed by a Q & A with Detective Clarence Bennett , IlI , Palm Beach County Sherriff ' s Office . The third session , " TikTok Body RoK : A Heart Healthy Workout ," dance instructor Soror Kenya Clay of Dallas , Texas , guided participants in an exercise challenge . The fourth session , "' Cash App Me ': Financial Literacy for Teens ," facilitator Soror Ursula Johnson-Braswell presented on cash app , investing / saving , and budgeting . Klass ended with two breakout sessions on gender-specific topics : " Living as a Black Male in America ," educator Mr . Jerald Cheesborough , and "' You Go Girl !': Manifesting Your Dreams ," Soror D ' Jion Harris-Jackson . Panelists for " A Different World : Life at an HBCU " included Paige Hawkins of Clark Atlanta University ( top left ), Erin Mack of Bethune-Cookman University ( top right ), and Darrell Williams of Morehouse College ( bottom left ). Soror Stephanie Leonard , Ph . D , ( bottom right ) moderated the discussion . panel discussion Nu Iota Omega hosted in partnership with Ivy Tea Rose , Inc ., the chapter ' s foundation , on Facebook . It was part of the sorority ' s celebration of HBCU Week , and featured recent graduates from Clark Atlanta University , Morehouse College and Bethune-Cookman University , along with Soror Stephanie Leonard , Ph . D ., who moderated the discussion . The panelists discussed campus atmosphere , academic excellence and homecoming . They dispelled common myths about HBCUs and answered questions from viewers . Donations to the AKA HBCU Endowment were encouraged during the live panel discussion , which drew more than 1,100 views during the event and more than 3,500 views of the recording after the event ended . It reached 8,139 people and was shared 41 times .

Miami , FL – Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter held their annual Pumps , Pearls , and Politics event virtually with over 150 community leaders , candidates , and sorors in attendance . US Congresswomen Frederica S . Wilson and empowerment event was a candidates ' forum designed to ensure African American voters are knowledgeable and empowered before heading to the polls . Candidates from local and state races spoke on issues that matter to Floridians and to the nation . Candidates that participated in Pumps , Pearls , and Politics included those running for Miami-Dade County mayor , various Miami-Dade County District Commission seats , city mayors , state attorneys , and the Dade County School Board . The event was moderated by Omari Hardwick who is most known for his role as ' Ghost ' on the hit show Power which airs on the Stars Network .
