Iota Tau Omega Sponsors Self-Care and Health Events
West Chester , PA – Iota Tau Omega Chapter sponsored Caregivers Awareness : Self-Care Ain ' t Selfish : The 3 Myths that Keep Us from Fully Loving Our Loved Ones ." This Zoom webinar and Facebook Live program featured Marcia Whitaker , MD a board-certified internal medicine physician and certified health and life coach . The virtual program shared that 1 in 4 adults are or will become a caregiver and grappled with issues such as love vs . fear , keys to living full , the power of non-negotiables , and the inevitability of burnout . The event provided an opportunity for members and friends to share the presentation more broadly to provide strategies for providing support , as well as self-care and calling out selfsabotaging habits which can be even more challenging when individuals face extended periods of social isolation during a pandemic . The chapter also sent lunch and self-care items to honor nurses working in the compassionate care unit at Pocopson Home . The chapter sponsored another program , Health Is Wealth , featuring Dr . Taunya Marie Tinsley , President of Multicultural Counseling and Development ( AMCD ). This virtual program focused on why mental health matters , dealing with trauma , PTSD , depression , as well as coping and treatment strategies . The event provided an opportunity to share the presentation more broadly to destigmatize mental health issues and build greater awareness during the pandemic .

The chapter has been proactive in gun violence initiatives , but due to the escalation in deaths of children in Philadelphia , the committee decided to act . The committee assembled a gun violence summit , " Gun Violence : Beyond a Conversation " to bring organizations and concerned community members in collaboration to develop a coalition to reduce gun violence in the city . There were more than 200 interested participates in finding solutions . Social media and local television stations covered the event . Theta Psi Omega Supports HBCUs
Providence , RI – In support of Target I : HBCU for Life : A Call to Action , Theta Psi Omega Chapter hosted a virtual HBCU week which included a series of social media posts highlighting Historically Black Colleges and Universities . Chapter members that are alumni of HBCUs were spotlighted in the series and shared their reasons for choosing to attend an HBCU and the influence that their HBCU experience has had on their lives . Theta Psi Omega also hosted Rhode Island ' s first ever virtual HBCU Fair in partnership with # YESpvd !, a non-profit organization that provides college and career resources to Providence students . In attendance were students and parents from 10 area middle and high schools . Attendees learned about the history of HBCUs as well as their admissions requirements . Panelists consisted of alumni , current students , and parents from North Carolina Central University , Virginia State University , Spelman College , North Carolina A & T University , Morehouse College , Hampton University , Howard University , and Clark Atlanta University . They shared their experiences attending an HBCU as well as advice for applying to HBCUs .
