Schrader Named Power 100 Caribbean American
Soror Claudia V . Schrader , Ed . D , a Life member , Silver Star and active in the Eta Omega Omega Chapter , Bronx , NY , has been named amongst the CaribNews " Power 100 " Caribbean Americans . Yearly , CaribNews highlights accomplishments that are made by Caribbean Americans who are active participants of the movement for change and empowerment in the United States . Soror Schrader was named the President of Kingsborough Community College / CUNY , the only community college located in Brooklyn , NY . She is the first black woman in the history of the college to hold the title of president .
Simpkins Preserves History
Tau Delta Omega Chapter ' s Soror Twyla Simpkins was nominated and selected for the Preservation Award for the Precious Places Community Documentary Project , in the publication category . This award was sponsored by the Heritage Commission of Delaware County , PA . The commission was impressed with the extent of the history , attention to detail , and the ongoing nature of her project . They have also selected Soror Simpkins to receive a Preservation Award for the Pride Museum in the special project category because of her dedication to promoting Chester , Pennsylvania ' s African American history and making it accessible to everyone . The Heritage Commission is a volunteer body appointed by the DE County Council , with a mission to encourage historical and cultural awareness and preservation within the county , and has been recognizing worthy preservation projects and individuals throughout Delaware County for the past 42 years .
Smith-Lee Elected as Vice Mayor
Soror Annette Smith-Lee , newly elected vice mayor for the City of Petersburg , VA , has a sustained track record of being a proactive city leader ; one who is able to recognize the needs of the community , leverage employment needs and distribute equitable funding throughout the city . The City of Petersburg is reopening the expansion of AMPAC Fine Chemicals , a company armed with $ 350 million in federal grant funds and will produce over 400 new job opportunities for the community . Soror Smith-Lee plans to introduce authentic initiatives to the city , update technology and invest in software expansion . She plans to collaborate within the school division to ensure equitable learning opportunities for school-age children post the COVID-19 pandemic . Soror Smith-Lee cares about her city and its residents and looks forward to making great strides in the coming year .
Speare-Hardy Promoted to Senior Vice President
Silver Soror Stacy M . Thompson Speare-Hardy was promoted to senior vice president , West and Midwest Regional Corporate Responsibility Manager for KeyBank Corp . She is responsible for overseeing KeyBank ' s Corporate Responsibility endeavors for nine states ; Ohio , Indiana , Michigan , Colorado , Utah , Idaho , Washington , Oregon and Alaska . She represents KeyBank on higher profile local / regional industry committees or nonprofit organizations that align with Key ' s mission in the marketplace . Summers Promoted to Vice President
Soror Tammi Summers , PhD , a member of Upsilon Mu Omega Chapter in Milwaukee , WI was appointed the first vice-president of Diversity , Equity and Inclusion ( DEI ) at Gateway Technical College . Her promotion along with the creation of the Office of DEI is the first in the college ' s 110-year history . Prior to her vice-president role she served as the Dean of Learning Success and oversaw all the multicultural programming in the college , which included disability services , veteran services , student life and programming for students of color and first-generation students . Dr . Bryan Albrecht , president of Gateway Technical College describes Soror Summers as a " champion for inclusiveness throughout the entire Gateway community and that her role was needed in order to strengthening the college ' s commitment to diversity , equity and inclusionary practices ." Soror Summers was selected to represent Gateway and the Racine and Milwaukee communities by serving on the YWCA Southeastern Wisconsin Board of Directors . Summerville Selected
Soror Danielle L . Summerville , of Iota Beta Omega Chapter in Colorado Springs , CO was selected from a pool of 269 applicants as the Community Diversity & Outreach Programs Manager for the city . This is a new position for Colorado Springs , entailing strengthening the city ' s relationships in the areas of diverse populations , community engagement , stakeholder collaboration and program development . Prior to taking on the newly created position , Soror Summerville served almost 19 years with Big Brothers Big Sisters-Pikes Peak , 10 of those years as executive director . She is also the recipient of numerous awards and honors to include the Colorado Springs Business Journal ' s " Women of Influence .” She remains active in the community and a charter member of the Colorado Springs Chapter of The Links , Incorporated . Soror Marcia L . Thomas of Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter , Saginaw , MI , and Great Lakes Michigan Cluster Coordinator , was recently named Global Diversity and Inclusion Leader at Aptar , based out of Crystal Lake , IL .
