Another glass ceiling has been shattered by an AKA soror and highly-regarded industry leader . Soror Kimberly Godwin has just taken the reins as President of ABC News — the first Black executive to run a broadcast network news operation .
Soror Kimberly began her 35-year career running local TV newsrooms in top U . S . markets including New York , Los Angeles , Dallas , Philadelphia , and Cleveland . She joined CBS News in 2007 and most recently was second-in-command as executive vice president of news , supervising 400 domestic and foreign affiliates ; the unit ’ s national news desk and its domestic bureaus ; news standards & ethics ; and race & culture . She also helped develop CBS Village , a multiplatform franchise featuring content about diverse groups of people .
Soror Kimberly graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism from the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication at Florida A & M University , an HBCU , where she was a member of Beta Alpha Chapter . She has served as an adjunct professor and interim director of journalism , and is chairman of the board of visitors for the journalism program .

Soror Godwin is married to an accomplished high school principal and has a wonderful blended family of two daughters , who are sorors , and two stepchildren .
At ABC News , Soror Kimberly is overseeing editorial and business operations for broadcast , digital , streaming and audio news across the organization — including number one programs Good Morning America and World News Tonight . She ’ s won six National News and Documentary Emmy Awards , two Edward R . Murrow Awards , an Alfred I . DuPont-Columbia Award , and a Sigma Delta Chi Award . She was also honored this past November with the prestigious Ida B . Wells Award from the National Association of Black Journalists .
