The event was held online via Zoom , streamed live at Facebook . com / MPHDNashville , and re-broadcast locally on the Metro Nashville Network . The panel included health professionals from the Nashville community . Our objective was to have an open dialogue between black and brown people , and health care professionals who administer the COVID-19 vaccines . The panel provided an overview of the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nashville , and their vaccination efforts . They addressed the significance of collaboration and community-based approaches when attempting to achieve vaccination goals for communities of color . Questions included : What is vaccine hesitancy and what can we do to decrease it ? Why do some black and brown people distrust the COVID-19 vaccines ? How safe are the vaccines ? What are the side effects ? What is herd immunity and why is achieving it important ? The discussion then turned towards misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines and addressed myths . Many of these concerns are a direct result of distrust due to prior negative impacts of healthcare on communities of color such as the Tuskegee Syphilis Study . Stories about negative effects of healthcare for communities of color have been passed down from one generation to the next . The event had over 900 viewers and participants in attendance .
