CHAPTER NEWS continual learning in the sorority . Eight reclaimed or transfer sorors attended the session and bonded as new members to Upsilon Tau Omega . We also celebrated the arts with The Arts Exchange — Blues and Hues program . The chapter has sponsored several workshops " Building Your Economic Legacy-Credit Repair / Credit Monitor Workshop ” attended by more than 50 county residents . Students and parents attended workshops on " How to Narrow Down Your College Choices " and " Why Should I Attend an HBCU ."
Xi Sigma Omega Exemplifies Excellence in Support of Target 5
Gaithersburg , MD – Sorors from Xi Sigma Omega Chapter have continued to support Target 5 – Global Impact throughout the pandemic . Target 5 members worked " Together but Apart " making pillowcase dresses , shirts and participating in the Crochet Squares Nelson Mandela Project . While remaining socially distanced , the chapter held contactless drive thru activities collecting shoes for Soles4Souls and eyeglasses for donation to the Lions Club . These activities also afforded members the opportunity to collect the pillowcase dresses , pillowcase shirts , and crochet squares that were made safely at home . Xi Sigma Omega is proud to support this activity and the rewards it brings to both the community and the chapter . Under the direction of Soror Arla J . Bentley , basileus , the chapter ' s hard work anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins University ; and Joy Hall , AARP Maryland , Associate State Director of community outreach . Xi Delta Omega members , Soror Elizabeth Stevens , Target 4 : The Arts ! committee and Soror Kimberly Stevenson , Target 5 : Global Impact committee moderated the event . Many of the participants included Maryland State Delegate Steve Johnson , District 34A , Harford County ; Cassandra Beverly , Esquire , Harford County Caucus of African American leaders ; and many local national panhellenic council representatives . With 88 participants in attendance , Xi Delta Omega encouraged Dr . King ' s dream of service to the community with relevant , factual information and resources in a time of uncertainty . this past year earned Xi Sigma Omega a 2nd place Medium Chapter Award during the 90th North Atlantic Regional Conference . This is the second consecutive win for Xi Sigma Omega , as they won the 1st place Medium Chapter Award during the 89th North Atlantic Regional Conference .
Xi Delta Omega Hosts Virtual COVID-19 Vaccine Panel
Havre de Grace , MD – In observance of Dr . Martin Luther King Day of Service , Xi Delta Omega hosted a virtual community discussion to exchange concerns and answer questions about the COVID-19 virus , vaccine , and other health inequities in underserved communities . Iota Gamma Omega Celebrates Healthcare Workers
Lanham , MD – In response to the global pandemic , Iota Gamma Omega Chapter , in collaboration with the Ivy Community Charities of Prince Georges County , Inc ., led a team of volunteers in showering a complimentary lunch , fun , and appreciation to over 1000 front line healthcare workers at three University of Maryland ( UM ) Region Health Centers . Lunch included Rita ' s ice treats , sandwiches from Subway and chips donated by Rosetta Wiley of Value Teachers . Some of the staff joined sorority member Shane ' Hargraves in Zumba routines . We were delighted to have , UM Capital Region Health Board member , Karmen Brown ( wife of Congressman Anthony Brown D-MD ), and Dr . Nathaniel Richardson , Jr ., newly selected president , and CEO of the UM Capital Region Health to join in the festivities . Psi Epsilon Omega Serious Matters of the Heart
Laurel , MD – Psi Epsilon Omega Chapter hosted its annual " Pink Goes Red for Heart Health " community impact day . Nearly 300 participants logged on for the virtual event , " Serious Matters of the Heart ."
