Xi Zeta Omega Hosts “ Pink Goes Red ” Heart Health and COVID
Washington , DC – In support of Target 2 , Xi Zeta Omega embarked upon a COVID informational series targeting heart health , nutrition , and mental health and its impact on African Americans during the pandemic . In observance of Pink Goes Red Impact Day , Xi Zeta Omega hosted a Facebook Live discussion " COVID 19 , The Vaccine and the Impact on African Americans with Heart Disease ." This session was presented by Dr . Geoffrey Mount Varner , MD , MPH , emergency room physician and split-second decision expert . Dr . Varner discussed the implications of heart disease when ill with COVID , and on the safety of the vaccines . He dispelled myths about the vaccine safety and addressed concerns for those hesitant about the vaccine . The event was viewed nearly 1000 times . The second series " Nutrition in the COVID 19 Era " was presented for our Facebook viewers by Soror Ellen M . Griffith , RDN , registered dietician nutritionist . Soror Griffith discussed 4 nutrients to keep us healthier , feel stronger and help to resist the COVID19 virus . Rounding out the series was a Facebook Live discussion on " Managing Mental Health in the COVID19 Era " presented by our soror , Roselyn Aker-Black , PsyD , clinical psychologist . Dr . Roz discussed strategies to manage social isolation , anxiety , and depression during the pandemic . The series was well received by our viewers . The Target 2 Chair is Soror Leslie Gofney , and the event captains were Sorors Crystal Williams , Cheryl Campbell , and Monica Roache .
Alpha Alpha Mu Omega Celebrates with Virtual Events
Georgetown , DE – Alpha Alpha Mu Omega Chapter celebrated the oneyear anniversary of its chartering with a virtual " Sip and Paint ." Soror Marshele White-Hall led her committee in the planning of this event . Our celebration began with remarks from our North Atlantic Regional Director , Mary Bently La Mar , and then local artist , Kevin Solomon , guided sorors and guests , through painting a portrait of a beautiful lady in a wide brimmed hat . Soror artists were invited to be creative in their painting , while enjoying snacks , laughing , and engaging in sisterly fun and games . Many sorors painted their lady in shades of pink and green and each was unique . Everyone had a chance to display their painting in a group virtual picture . It was a fun night for Alpha Alpha Mu Omega as the sisterly relations committee hosted a virtual " Spa Night ." Sorors were treated to a skin care and makeup lesson from our Mary Kay Consultant , Soror Shorel Clark . Zeta Omega Sponsors " Adopt Refugee Families " Project
Wilmington , DE – Zeta Omega continues its commitment to aid and support the plight of Delaware ' s refugee families , many of whom are Black and Brown people , by partnering with Jewish Family Services of Delaware ( a resettlement agent for our state ) since 2019 in supporting refugees who are newly arrived and recently settled in Delaware . Our program , Winterfest II , under the leadership of the Education Committee Chairmen , Sorors Sharon Bryant and Patsy Pipkin-Perry , Zeta Omega sorors and community members , donated hundreds of household cleaning products , gift cards , brand new and gently used clothing , shoes , boots , and other winter items to be distributed to the participating refugee families . Zeta Omega plans to remain in this collaborative effort with Jewish Family Services as they continue to serve the refugee families residing in Delaware .
Psi Omega Holds AKA Day at City Hall
Roxbury , MA – Members of Psi Omega Chapter hosted their annual " AKA Day at City Hall " virtually . " AKA Day at City Hall " featured a panel discussion focusing on the criminal justice system , with the topic , " Where are we Now ? Where are we Going ? Six Months after George Floyd ." The event , chaired by Massachusetts Connections Representative Soror Theresa Coney , Esq ., sponsored by Andrea Campbell , District 4 Boston City Councilor . The moderator was Tanisha Sullivan , Esq ., president , Boston Branch of the NAACP and member of the Boston Police Reform Task Force . The panelists included Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins , Esq ., Anthony Benedetti , Esq ., chief counsel , committee for Public Counsel Services , and Felix Owusu , a research fellow for the criminal justice policy program at Harvard Law School .
