Blair : Retired Educator / Golden Soror / Life Member
Chicago , IL – Golden Soror Marcia Blair became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 10 , 2021 . Soror Blair was initiated into Beta Kappa Chapter at Huston -Tillotson University in 1967 and was a longtime member of Theta Omega Chapter , Chicago , IL . Soror Blair graduated from Huston -Tillotson in 1969 and later received an MS in human learning and development from Governors State University . She was an educator with the Chicago Public School system , serving for over 35 years until her retirement in 2005 . She was also an active member of South Shore United Methodist Church , where she served with the United Methodist Women , the pastor parish relations committee , and the women ' s chorus . In addition , she was a Golden Soror and member of the Theta Omega Chapter Seniors ( TOCS ). Soror Blair was preceded in death by her husband Frank L . Blair , Jr . Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Soror Marla Blair-Hohenkirk , nieces , nephews , close friends , and sorors .
Brooks : Retired Educator / Golden Soror
Bluefield , WV – Golden Soror Vera Mae Brooks became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 23 , 2021 . She was a retired educator of the McDowell County Board of Education in Welch , WV . She graduated from Kimball High School and Bluefield State College ( BSC ). She was an active member of the Kimball High School Alumni Association , the BSC Alumni Association , the Flat Top Women ' s Auxiliary Association president , and a Flat Top Baptist Association officer . Soror Brooks was honored as a Golden Soror . Soror Brooks leaves to cherish her memory son , Kevin L . Brooks ( Sue ); her mother , Elizabeth Brooks Price ; brother James Brooks ( Iris ); grandson , Cole and granddaughter Abby ; sister-in-law , Lorine Price ; nieces and nephews , and friends .
Brown : Social Worker / Retired Director of Operations
Philadelphia , PA – Soror Andrea Brown became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 30 , 2020 . She was initiated into Delta Gamma Chapter and served as chapter basileus at Penn State University , where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in social welfare . She later earned a master ' s degree in social administration from Temple University . During her career as a social worker , she held various leadership positions at the Philadelphia Education Fund , Health Partners of Philadelphia , and the YWCA of Germantown . In addition , she served on the board of the Uptown Entertainment and Development Corporation . In the 1970s , she was director of Community Concern # 13 Multipurpose Learning Center that provided preschool for children and adult classes for their parents . Afterward , she became director of operations for the Philadelphia Education Fund for many years , where she retired in 2008 . Soror Brown leaves to cherish her memory , two daughters , Halima and Niambi ; two brothers ; a devoted niece , Soror Benita Williams , Omega Omega Chapter ; many relatives , friends , and sorors .
Brown-Reid : Chemist / Silver Star
Wilson , NC – Silver Star Soror Angela Teresa Brown- Reid of Gamma Beta Omega Chapter became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 26 , 2020 . Soror Brown- Reid , Teresa , as most know , graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry . After graduating , she began her professional career as a chemist for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture . For over 20 years , she continued advancing in her professional career from lead chemist to chemist supervisor until 2016 . Although chemistry was her career , music was her passion . She made an indelible musical print for many churches , choirs , and gospel groups . Soror Brown-Reid played and directed choirs and composed music for Gamma Beta Omega ' s chapter choir .
Bruce : Singer / Recording Artist / Actress
Saint Paul , MN – Soror Yolande Bruce became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 8 , 2021 . She attended Philander Smith College before transferring to the University of Minnesota . She was initiated in the Gamma Alpha Chapter at Philander Smith in 1978 . She was a gifted singer , actress , and church choir leader . She was also a member of the internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble , Moore by Four , for 35 years , having toured Europe , Asia , and the United States . In addition , she frequently performed in plays and musicals at the renowned Guthrie Theater , Minnesota ' s only professional African American theater , Penumbra the Ordway , the Illusion Theater , and other venues . Her talent was sought after as she opened for Dizzy Gillespie , Sarah Vaughan , and B . B . King . Soror Bruce leaves to cherish her memory , a son , Miles , siblings Brooke Davis and Leslie Smith , and many other family members and friends .
Brue : Educator / Silver Soror
Atlanta , GA – Soror Willie M . Brue became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 27 , 2020 , at the age of 92 . She was a graduate of California State University , San Bernardino , with a bachelor ' s degree in sociology / psychology with a gerontology certificate , and Brown ' s International University , with a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in education . She taught special needs children . Her greatest joy was seeing them mainstreamed . Soror Brue joined Eta Nu Omega Chapter in San Bernardino / Riverside in 1994 . She received her Silver Star in 2020 . She lived in San Bernardino for over 60 years and was an active member of her community . She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist for over 40 years . She relocated to Atlanta in 2017 to be with her family . She was an associate member of Cascade United Methodist Church . Soror Brue is survived by her daughter Soror Denice Brue-Clopton ( Otis ), two sons Wilson and Daniel , 10 grandchildren , 17 great-grandchildren , and a host of relatives and friends .
