Alpha Alpha Sigma Omega Chartered in North Atlantic

CHAPTER CHARTERINGS
Brandywine , MD – On May 16 , 2021 , North Atlantic Regional Director Mary Bentley LaMar welcomed Alpha Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter , formerly known as the Southern Pearls of Prince George ' s County . Under the leadership of President Yatana M . Walker , the Southern Pearls of Prince George ' s County grew to 30 charter members who have advanced the sorority ' s mission in the rural area of District 9 in Prince George ' s County , Maryland . Southern Pearls of Prince George ' s County annually executed over 1,500 hours of community service ; awarded $ 3,500 in scholarships to students attending HBCUs ; collected shoes and eyeglasses ; donated
toiletries ; supported District 9 with providing over 8,000 meals to seniors ; multiple public seminars and events in the areas of education , health , economics , the arts , and global impact solidifying the commitment to maintaining , growing and rendering Service to All Mankind . District 9 ' s Councilman Sydney J . Harrison presented the group with the Ida B . Wells Excellence in Community Service

Award . In recognition of the chartering day , U . S . Congressman Steny H . Hoyer , with the Office of the Majority Leader , presented the chapter with a proclamation and the flag of the United States of America that was flown over the United States Capitol in honor of the chartering of the chapter .

Alpha Alpha Tau Omega Chartered in North Atlantic

Middletown , DE – On May 16 , 2021 , 40 women chartered Alpha Alpha Tau Omega Chapter , the newest chapter in the region and the fifth graduate chapter in the State of Delaware under the leadership of the 34th
North Atlantic Regional Director , Mary Bentley LaMar . Notable guests in attendance were Arla J . Bentley , North Atlantic Region Membership Chairman ; Tonja L . Ringgold , North Atlantic Region Program Chairman ; and Gia James , North Atlantic Region Cluster II Coordinator . In addition , the chartering was commemorated with a virtual celebration of over 1000 guests , including international , regional , and local sorority members , family , and friends .
