Dating for us required a lot of logistical
planning as Curtis was living in Guelph when we
met, and I was living in Collingwood. We both put
a ton of miles on our cars, but it was well worth
it. We really like to travel and are both into sports,
so we made a point in revolving our dating life
around both of those. In our first year of dating,
we went to the Kentucky Derby, Italy, New York
and Boston. Although living far from one another
was a bit of a challenge at first, it really made us
appreciate the time that we did get to spend to-
gether.
I had been in Halifax for work during the Family
Day weekend. I flew back home late on the Sunday
evening and Curtis was busy cleaning the house
so that we “wouldn’t have any chores on Monday”.
After making sure I promised to snowshoe with
him on Monday morning, I went off to bed. The
next morning, he was adamant that we hike the
Singhampton Caves trail, but I wanted to try

something new. Our conversation went in circles
until I agreed to go with his choice. It was a beautiful
blue bird day and he honestly gave me no indication
of what was about to happen. When we arrived in
the cave, he got down on one knee and proposed.
He had packed a nice bottle of champagne for us to
celebrate with on the spot!
Given that we are both from the Guelph area,
we thought that it would be fun to host our family
and friends in the Collingwood area for our wedding.
Being in the Navy, I love the water, so it was important
to me that we had a venue with a view of Georgian
Bay. We wanted a venue that offered an outdoor
ceremony site, had great food and a licenced patio
as we figured that our guests would want to be
outside. We looked at many various locations in the
Collingwood area, but Lora Bay was the only one that
hit everything on our list.
We kept our décor minimal as we wanted to
feature the view of Georgian Bay from Lora Bay.
