Management has never been my strong point ;)

What do you see as the biggest challenge or ‘next big thing’ for ITSM professionals over the next couple of years and what do we as ITSM professinals need to do to address these challenges/opportunities?

I think our biggest challenge continues to be staying relevant. The ITIL heyday is well and truly over and some organisations tend to have the view that ITSM isn’t so important anymore.

The answer is not a quick fix but we need to keep espousing the benefits of good consistent people, process and technology. The proof is in the pudding so we need to justify our existence by measuring and reporting and moving beyond Operations and Transition and showing our employers the real benefits of Service Strategy (largely untapped in most organisations).

What's the most valuable piece of advice you have been given in your professional career?

Calm down Rach!

I am a bit excitable and potentially overly enthusiastic at times. I had a boss a number of years ago that taught me that passion and enthusiasm are great but being able to deal with life’s challenges in a calm and collected way is hugely valuable also.

What advice would you give young people who have chosen a career in technology?

Firstly I’d say – congratulations, you’ve made a great choice. The second would be to change

roles regularly. There is so much scope in IT to build knowledge and skills, don’t limit yourself.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I have 3 kids so hanging out with them (while the still want to hang out with me) is important. I love to read and am currently doing a Diploma of Counselling for a bit of fun.

What was the title and author of the last book you read?

I just finished listening to The Alchemist for the 10th time. So many life lessons in that little book.

One word that could describe your experience of itSMF Australia?

Value

Have you ever been to an itSMF Conference, if so what was your conference experience like and do you have a lasting memory?

I have been to many many itSMF Conferences. My fave one is still the Gold Coast where we had rockaoke (singing with a live band). I made a fool of myself but was sooo much fun.
