What is your current job title and industry and what do you enjoy the most about both?

Job title: Service Lifecycle Lead, Airservices Australia

Industry: Aviation

My role is essentially a business relationship manager role which is something that has always been on my career plan.

Working in the aviation industry is pretty cool and there are some real disrupters that we are having to plan for (eg. drones).

How long have you been an itSMF Member?

15 years or more, most of the time I have also been a member of the Qld committee.

What itSMF Membership Benefits do you get most value from?

Definitely the seminars and I always look forward to the annual conference.

What do you enjoy most about being an itSMF Member?

Being a natural extrovert (getting energy from engaging with other people), the aspect I enjoy most is the networking opportunities that the seminars and conferences provide. The Qld itSMF members are super loyal. We consistently get great numbers along to our quarterly seminars. There is real comradeship there.

Has being an itSMF Member benefited you professionally?

There is no doubt that my career has benefited

from being an itSMF member. This works on a number of levels. Just meeting people who are going through the same challenges as you and being able to share ideas and IP is hugely beneficial.

The other aspect is presenting at seminars and conferences has really helped my build my personal brand. Job opportunities have come my way as a direct result.

What has been your biggest workplace or career challenge and how did you face it?

For me this was moving from a safe government role into the world of ITSM consulting. I was working at Qld Police at the time and not getting a lot of job satisfaction and an offer came out of the blue. In my typical fashion I didn’t overthink it and decided it was ‘meant to be’. Undoubtedly the best career decision I ever made.

Have you ever applied your ITSM skills outside of work?

Not consciously but I am sure I do. Financial
