2 itSMF Bulletin—September 2017
Alan Hollensen
CEO, itSMF Australia
Hi,
Our National Conference occupies a big part of my year: pre
Conference, the event itself and the breakdown and analysis.
And even before the results are in, we’re all thinking of next
year’s event and all the what & wherefores of how that
should look.
But is at this time, a couple of weeks following Conference
that I get to reflect most happily on what we did and how it
all went.
First off, congratulations to Peter Marshall, the immediate
past Chair of an amazing state branch. Queensland has
enjoyed tremendous success with their innovative seminar
program and Peter’s ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was
recognition of his pivotal role in their success.
The awards themselves were managed by itSMF Board
member Brian Jennings and they were a highlight of our Gala
Dinner. The dinner itself, in the splendid venue of the
ballroom of the Regent Theatre, was itself regarded as a
conference highlight. Your Conference Committee sought to
make the dinner, marking our 20 th National Conference,
something quite special and they succeeded in my humble
opinion.
A big vote of thanks too for the work of the Conference
organising committee headed up by Aprill Allen, which did an
outstanding job and set the tone of the event generally. The
‘Start-Up Alley’ was essentially Aprill’s idea and it also proved
a success, pointing the way to a future where this will be an
accepted part of our Conference offering.
Finally, I’d like to thank our reviewers who put their hands up
to work through the submissions. Their contribution is just
one more example of this striking sense of ‘community’ that
your organisation generates.
There are plenty of others to thank, but my point is that the
contribution people make to our Conference is so
wide-ranging, so integral to its success and anchored in the
Forum’s membership that when we talk about Conference
we are of course really talking about you.
Well Done!
