Montezuma lived with a heavy burden. He is known as the emperor that gave up the Aztec Empire. Despite this terrible downfall, Montezuma II ruled the empire with great skill.
Hernan Cortes betrayed Montezuma's undeserved trust and conquered the Aztec empire. While Cortes is responsible for the fall of the Aztec empire, it cannot be said that he did it alone. If not for diseases that the Spanish carried along with them, the Aztecs would have been a much more formidable force.
