EXPORT TRENDS The analysis of export flows, based on Istat data for January-September 2024, confirms that Europe remains the main outlet market for Italian enterprises, despite recording an overall decline of five percentage points. Within the EU, the slowdown of markets such as Spain and Poland only partially offset the steady sales to German converters. Supplies to the CIS collapsed, halved due to the sharp reduction in exports to Russia, where the embargo on Italian machinery continues to favour Chinese competitors. On the contrary, there was a growth of exports to non-EU markets such as Turkey and the United Kingdom. Exports to the Americas do not appear to be very dynamic. FOCUS ON AFRICA In Africa, a strong difference emerges: while flows to the sub-Saharan area are growing significantly( with South Africa in the lead and significant increases in Cameroon, Angola and Tanzania), exports to Mediterranean countries are decreasing, with the exception of Morocco. This country, together with Algeria, represents a strategic market despite political and economic difficulties.
2025 OUTLOOKS“ Making predictions for 2025 is complicated,” says Massimo Margaglione, President of Amaplast.“ The ability of Italian manufacturers to adapt to changes in the markets and offer advanced technological solutions has to deal with increasing complexity at a global level. At the moment, a slight rebound is envisaged, with expected growth in the main indicators between 1 % and 2 %. We hope for a more marked recovery of the Italian domestic market, thanks to the effective introduction of Transition 5.0 measures and the implementation of European directives on sustainability and energy saving.”
