Italian plastic machinery production fell by 9 % in 2024 to an estimated value of 4.35 billion euros. Exports dropped to 3.25 billion(-5 %), while imports were down 15 % due to weak domestic demand. A moderate rebound is expected in 2025(+ 1-2 %).

The preliminary 2024 report drawn up by Centro Studi Amaplast- MECS points to an approximately nine percent drop in Italian production of plastic and rubber machinery, last year worth an estimated 4.35 billion euros. This trend reflects the one also expected for exports, traditionally the driving force of the sector. Indeed, Italian plastic and rubber machinery exports are expected to show a slowdown, to 3.25 billion euros, albeit a less marked one than those recorded in other industrial sectors and by international competitors. Imports, on the other hand, recorded a more marked decline, estimated at around-15%, due to particularly weak domestic demand. The post-pandemic rebound, supported by tax incentives in the three-year period 2021-2023, has finally come to an end.
