Materioteca , the first Italian collection of eco-sustainable materials was recently opened in Bari . A project born from an idea of Forethinking , a research and development accelerator for innovation in the field of sustainability , and thanks to the synergy with the University of Bari , which will physically house the collection . The project was presented on June 2023 at the Department of Physics . Materioteca represents a unique case of cooperation between public and private entities operating in the Italian eco-design sector . This eco-sustainable materials collection aims to be a meeting place for collaboration between the business and research worlds with the aim of rethinking industrial products from a circular economy perspective . On the one hand , companies will be able to benefit from the new materials , which are the result of the constant work of researchers while on tahe other hand , the academic world will be able to understand the real needs of the business world , in order to direct its efforts towards the development of new green products that will replace polluting ones that are still used in various sectors . “ The uniqueness of this project ” explained Gennaro Durante , founder of Forethinking “ lies in the fact that Materioteca is the first collection able to offer not only ‘ recycled ’ materials , of which we already have several examples in Italy . Rather , our project is aimed at collecting materials from green chemistry and therefore from research . ject a ‘ hinge ’ between these two worlds that often do not speak to each other enough . Forethinking wants to act as a mediator in this process and we hope that this approach can be transferred to other contexts in the future .”
NETWORKING OCCASIONS The idea behind the initiative was born from the constant and lasting collaboration between Forethinking and the Departments of Physics and Chemistry of the University that share the course in Materials Science . “ We wanted to give visibility to this constructive dialogue ,”
continued Durante . Our company specialises in the green redesign of industrial products and has often cooperated with researchers at the University . At a certain point , we realised how necessary it was to make our work accessible to everyone instead of dispersing it .
