Launched in 2014 as an initiative by Pesenti Holding , an industrial group already active in the road work sector , Tomplastik is a company with offices in Covo ( Bergamo ) and a plant in Tunisia . It continues to consolidate its leadership in PET bottle-to-flake recycling thanks to considerable investment in latest-generation machinery and equipment . The idea came from the founder and current CEO , Thomas Pesenti , with his wife Enrica Tassi , administrative manager , and their sons Leonardo , plant manager , and Mattia , logistics manager . An interesting story , the CEO sums up : „ We came to Tunisia in search of road works and there we met other entrepreneurs who were talking about recycling plastic waste . We got together with six other partners and gave life to Tomplastik Italia taking care of the legal , administrative , commercial and logistical part while the production part was totally entrusted to the Tunisian company Tomplastik SA , with its own plant on site . There , the concept of recycling was unknown and the possibilities for expanding the business were ready to be seized .“ Specifically , since there is still no separate collection infrastructure in Tunisia but only a generic collection in large cities , such as Tunis , Hammamet and Sfax , finally throwing everything in landfills , a myriad of local micro-enterprises have been eshablished that manually collect plastic bottles from the streets , beaches and various locations . These partner companies then supply Tomplastik with the raw material . „ The Tunisians ,“ Pesenti explains , „ have learned to make the most of waste and scrap materials , separating cardboard from various types of plastic , for example , and then reselling the materials to recyclers . We then grind and shred the bottles , obtaining PET flakes , thanks to the processing line now in operation that is able to produce about 800 tons per month . This line includes washing ,
