ON DEFENSIVE UNIT, SIMPLY OFFENSE

By Colton Foster football coach at Trinity for a handful of years. While he inherits two smart quarterbacks, it is going to be guys like Travia Davis II, Travia Davis III and Max Tomczak to run the rock to get the offense going.
Davis III put up 460 yards on the ground as the Dogs’ third-string back, and now he will become one of the most pivotal parts of this run game.
“ Last year we relied heavily on Hunter Henry, but now they he has graduated, we have Travia Davis II, Travia Davis III, Jaxson Hathorn and a couple more,” Schaub said.“ Everybody has to touch the ball because our three most experienced running backs all start on defense.”
New Waverly will likely see both Nunez and Card lineup under center, but having guys to catch the ball this season will be the true test. Nathan Dipprey, Ryder Armstrong and Leo Escobedo are all expected to be key parts, but the downside is none of them stands over the 6-foot mark.
Without size, going vertical is going to be tough, so the offense will likely find some stuff in the backfield to move the ball through the air.
“ The kids respond to both our quarterbacks, and they are natural leaders. But we have some huge shoes to fill from last year. We’ ve had multiple kids step up this summer and want to replace the guys,” Schaub said.“ The competition for position is key, and the kids are responding well.”
