BULLDOGS LOOK TO BUILD
Sometimes getting back to the basics is a good thing, and for New Waverly, getting the offense back to generic is going to be a focal point.
The Bulldogs scored 220 points in 11 games last year, which is good for 20 points per game, but on three occasions scored under 10 points. The Dogs were shut out in back-toback weeks against Anderson-Shiro and Woodville, where they lost by a combined score of 81-0.
In three weeks, New Waverly was outscored 139-14 when you add in the Newton game.
But this is a different year, and now the Bulldogs will see a change of personnel on the staff and on the field.
New Waverly has an opportunity to use two quarterbacks this season, with Ryson Nunez and Jace Card both capable of leading this team.
But the Bulldogs have a stable of running backs that are going to be the focal point of this team.
“ I think they have soaked in the offense well. Our two quarterbacks, I don’ t think missed a day in the summer,” New Waverly head coach Dean Schaub said.“ Coach Goodman has simplified our offense, and we are capitalizing on a lot of RPOs. We are going to get quick passes. We have a stable of running backs to offset the pass.”
