The Castello Chiola is well worth visiting just for its stunning views alone ! Enjoying a splendid hill�top position , this hotel that was once a mediaeval castle has views of the mountains of Abruzzo to the sea ( in the distance ) and with classically Italian rolling hills in between . The castle is today a 4 star hotel with just 36 rooms and combines its ancient exterior and framework with contemporary architectural features , its central courtyard now boasts a glass roof . The paintings by local artists that adorn the castle walls provide an individualistic feature . The bedrooms are a good size and with modern bathrooms . There is an attractive pool area , bar and restaurant . Like many others , this hotel does have some conference facilities and hosts conferences from time to time , usually out of high season . However , its original character and its appealing location in a very unexplored part of Italy make it well worth including in a touring holiday , perhaps of the eastern seaboard or combined with hotels in Lazio in the vicinity of Rome . Nearby , the mountains of Abruzzo offer tremendous scenery and walks and some parts of the coast near here are exceptionally pretty .

Bought in the 1960s by John Paul Getty , the Posta Vecchia was restored over a period of almost five years . During the process of restoration previously undiscovered Roman villas were found and the mosaics and objects unearthed are today displayed in the substantial private museum at the Posta Vecchia . Over the years Getty acquired magnificent antiques and works of art and these items were left in place when the villa became a luxury hotel in 1990 . The Posta Vecchia stands right on the Mediterranean seafront in six acres of its own spacious and verdant gardens . The hotel today is exquisitely cosy with a warm and welcoming atmosphere .
