Sextantio Albergo Diffuso Santo Stefano di Sessanio
Set at 1250m above sea level in the heart of the Gran Sasso National Park , the village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio was once a decayed and deserted village but thanks to its new owner , the village has been restored and resurrected in keeping with the owner ’ s love and passion for the art and culture of this mountainous region . Sextantio – Albergo Diffuso now has 27 rooms which have been painstakingly restored keeping their historical features and wooden fireplaces with re-instated wooden ceilings . Technology is present yet imperceptible for example in the under floor heating and low-tension electrical power . Stone and wood are softened by artisan fabrics , woollen mattresses and bedspreads woven on traditional looms . In striving to reflect Abruzzo ’ s rural traditions , the hotel has rediscovered local gastronomy and has even bought land to produce its own food , served in a former cellar in the centre of the village . Artisan skills have been revived and a number of craft workshops have been set up in the village , with weavers for example producing hand made fabrics for the rooms and for sale direct to the public . Artistic and cultural events are an essential part of life in Santo Stefano and Sextantio will sponsor each season a series of concerts and events . The village and the region has something to offer visitors every season of the year from the wild flowers in Spring to the possible snow in the winter months . Numerous trips into the nearby countryside are possible on different means of transport ; cycle , horse and foot . Picnics can be arranged for day excursions .
