CLUB NEWS PAGE 8 SUMMER 2019 I talian A merican D igest The Gulf Coast Italian American Cultural Society Celebrates! the 6th Annual Italian Games & Scholarship Awardees By Lorraine Santo The Gulf Coast American Italian American Cultural Society & MS SOFIA honored 4 scholarship recipients this past month for their exceptional performances academically. The high scool senior awardees, Kennady Hertz, Alexis Pellengrin, Malia Butler, and Windfield Swetman each received a fifteen hundred dollar scholarship! This is the 3rd year that MS SOFIA, a nonprofit entity of the GCIACS, has offered and awarded these scholarships to highschoolers who exceed expectations academically. The GCIACS, MS SOFIA, and the Italian American Digest wish all recipients the best of luck in their future academic endeavors. But that’s not all! The GCIACS is also preparing to host its 6th annual Italian Games event on June 29th in Biloxi, Mississippi! The Italian Games, “Una Serata di Giochi Italiani”, will play host to a number of exciting events. There will be Bocce, Tressette, and Scopa for guests to enjoy. There will also be Italian Bingo and Tarantella lessons, with instructor Silvana Caruso, for attendees! The event will obviously also offer a wide variety of great Italian foods with an amazing Homemade Italian Potluck.
