PAGE 15 STUDENT REVIEW INTERVIEW TV CHANNEL REVIEW: CNN CHING KIT SANG IS A STUDENT REVIEWER FOR THE ASLLC. HERE, HE GIVES A REVIEW OF TV CHANNEL CNN. Channel Overview: This channel gives an informative aspect of what is happening in the world with a particular focus on politics in the United States. It also includes other aspects such as sports and finance. Every morning, from 6am to 10am, there is a news report about the things that have happened the day before. In the afternoon, from 1pm to 4pm, there is a more general news report. If you're interested in sports then this is also included. Recommended Programme: One of my recommendations is Amanpour. The CNN page describes it as: ‘CNN International's flagship global affairs interview program hosted by Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour.’ The programme is shown every Thursday to Saturday at 10pm. It invites famous people all around the world, whether they work in politics, economics or sports, to come and discuss current issues. For example, in one episode they invited the Dalai Lama to share his views on how followers of a religion battle against authoritarian regimes and political oppression. He also looked at what role religion plays in contemporary politics. The reason I am recommending this is because it has an academic advantage and helps us to build up knowledge about the world and also about learning. As teenagers and young adults, we have the responsibility to understand what happens around the world. Sometimes this information can be hard to find. However, this programme gives an overall view of what that particular topic is about through the reporter, Christiane Amanpour. Additionally, she will interview people and visit the places in question. For example, in the episode where she interviewed the Dalai Lama, she actually went to Tibet to find out what happened. I appreciate her passion for reporting, and also like the fact that the programme can let the audience fully understand the topics. Another thing that I noticed is that the host will invite some guests to come and share some difficulties they faced when they were young. They then illustrate what they have learnt through their experiences. We can also learn from this as we should be more aware of these topics. 10
