Interview by KC Martin, Luxury Editor P errier-Jouët was founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier, the son of a vineyard owner and his wife Rose Adelaide Jouet, daughter of a wine merchant. Together, their house created the finest and most distinguished champagne in France. The house is best known for its highly prized “Belle Epoque” cuvee The charismatic and dashing Hervé Deschamps is the exquisite Chef de Caves for the highly acclaimed French champagne house, Perrier- Jouët. Deschamps explains with precision what makes Perrier Jouet champagnes truly sparkle. You can drink a spirit alone, but a champagne is made to be shared with others. When you open a bottle of Perrier-Jouet, each bottle becomes a ‘flashback to the past to appreciate the year and where it has taken you. It becomes a reflection of the feelings and the emotions of that year.” Deschamps explains, in depth, that champagne isn’t something that one simply copies. It is a creative and technical endeavor. Creating fine champagnes is like writing a song, each champagne involves a specific blending of notes and traditions starting with the Cote de Blanes, which was the beginning of the signature style of Perrier Jouet. Hervé Deschamps is keeping the classical traditions of Perrier-Jouët alive, while evolving to a modem approach with his own style at the house of Perrier-Jouët.
