Later that day I got a call from one of my business partners ( for a smaller local business ) who had just rented a booth at the Boise Idaho State Fair . He paid a few hundred dollars to be in a room with thousands of other booths , each advertising their products . During the 10 days he was at the event , he got over 4,000 new leads for our business .
While I was watching this happen over and over again during the week I was there , I started thinking back to when I was in college . I remember I told a teacher that we could easily lower everyone ’ s college tuitions or even get it free , if they would sell advertising on all of the walls in each of our classrooms . We had white walls and bored kids staring at them for eight hours or more a day … it seemed like a better advertising choice at the time than TV .
Anyway , after getting back from NYC , I sat down and started thinking about how I could use this concept to help grow my business even faster , and I came up with two ideas .
First , if you have anything that is getting a lot of eyeballs you can and should be selling space there . You can sell banner ads , affiliate products or adsense ads to quickly sell that space . Here are a few spots that I was thinking I could start selling space :
• On the side bars of my blog
• Under my blog posts
• At the bottom of my email ads ( under the main message , above the opt-out button )
• In my twitter profiles and tweets
• On my facebook fan pages
Second , find places that already have the eyeballs you want , and then purchase ads on their websites . This is the third top traffic strategy we use in our business is going to Google , and simply typing in the keywords we wish we were ranked for . Then we look at the top 10 sites , and try to buy advertising on them . It ’ s a simple process but drives insane amounts of traffic to all of our sites .
The selling of space is a powerful way to monetize the virtual real estate that you currently control and tap into the real estate of others . DCS
