Local SEO:
At the core of local SEO is, of course, your web site, but nearly as important( in some cases more than others) are your local listings. Namely your Google Places listing followed by your Bing and Yahoo Local listing. It’ s important that you either create listings on all three, or claim the listings that Google, Bing and Yahoo have created for you.
Once you claim them, then there are a few things you can do right away to give yourself an advantage. One is to go ahead and upload pictures and videos. Currently Google allows 10 photos and five videos. Upload as many as you can.
The next step to take is to make sure your categories are the keywords you want to rank for. It’ s important to note that you can’ t get cute here. Don’ t add the name of your city in the category. For example don’ t add“ Boise Dentist” as your category, just ad“ Dentist.” Google doesn’ t allow city names listed in the category portion of your listing.
Finally, start asking some of your good customers to leave you favorable reviews. Don’ t just have anyone do this. Get real customers to leave real comments. People can tell when they’ re reading a review that is a fake. You want the reviews to sound authentic to get maximum benefit.
Also, reviews do seem to help some with where your listing appears in the rankings. Understand that reviews alone aren’ t what determine rank. So if your top competitor has five reviews and you go out and get six, that doesn’ t mean you’ ll rank above your competitor. However, more reviews will work in your favor from an SEO standpoint, and a social proof standpoint.

We paid close attention to the reviews to help us determine where we should go. You’ ll also want to create a places listing on Facebook and create a listing on Yelp.
