HELPING HAND FOR HOSPICE
A
children ’ s hospice benefited from Morrison Water Services ’ health and safety site observation campaign .
The campaign encouraged MWS employees to combine best health and safety practice with supporting an outstanding cause – the Martin House children ’ s hospice in Boston Spa , Leeds , which is the business ’ s chosen charity .
With 50p donated for every submission , MWS raised £ 342.50 for the hospice , which supports babies , children and young people with lifeshortening conditions and their families .
Kev Davies , from MWS , presented Chris Verney of Martin House with the cheque . Kev said he felt honoured to be shown around the beautiful gardens of Martin House where he shared the outstanding love , care and support the hospice provides to so many children and their families .

Wherever possible , the people of MWS find ways of helping local people and charities . The health and safety site observation campaign was a great way to use the work MWS does to support an outstanding cause .
SCIENCE LESSON FROM STEM AMBASSADOR
Lesson – Annette Ley talks to Y2 students
Annette Ley , quality and compliance manager at Morrison Water Services , recently visited a school to educate Year 2 students about the water industry and what MWS does .
Engaging with communities , the business ’ Science , Technology , Engineering and Maths ( STEM ) Ambassador Programme allows its people to pass on their knowledge and expertise to children and young people across the country .
Annette , one of several STEM Ambassadors , planned a science lesson for the Year 2 class . The first part was centred around the importance of clean water and how MWS plays a vital role in helping to maintain the supply of water that flows to their homes . Annette explained how MWS people focus on performing their role as safely as possible and the children tried on some personal protective equipment to help them understand its importance .
Pupils were intrigued by the plant , excavations and pipelines in photos of MWS undertaking works . They then looked at some videos and photos of teams helping to repair bursts and leaking pipes . The pupils were given the opportunity to get hands-on , handling repair clamps , ferrules , water main sections , stop taps and small fittings .
Annette said : “ I was impressed with how insightful the children were when discussing how we might do things . I feel sure there were some budding engineers , designers , operatives and project managers among the class .”
MWS and M Group Services aim to educate and inspire the next generation - and spark an interest in the STEM field among young people - so STEM Ambassadors like Annette are seen as crucial for that purpose .
