CPS keeping region ’ s business premises safe and secure

eading Teesside security firm Close Protection Security has created eight new jobs on the back of two major contract wins and an exciting new venture .
The TeesAMP-based provider of site security , security driving and rapid response has been signed up to deliver the security for innovative fuel company Waste Knot Energy at its premises at the Port of Middlesbrough .
“ Waste Knot brought us in as the premier security company in the area ,” said CPS managing director Glenn Bartlett .
“ We started with providing night guards for Waste Knot and then progressed to having men on site 24 hours a day . It ’ s meant four new jobs for local people , which is great .
“ The hope is that as Waste Knot expand their service offering , CPS can continue to serve and grow with them .”
Waste Knot operations director Craig Jones said : “ We are pleased to have appointed CPS to provide security services to our new Middlesbrough site .
“ The company has a great reputation for providing an excellent service on a 24 / 7 basis and a number of local businesses gave me really positive feedback about them .
“ For us , the guards have provided much more than the security of the site . They also deliver a high level of customer service , liaising with site contractors and visitors , assisting with site inductions and enforcing site Covid control measures to help provide a safer working environment to all site personnel .”
Waste Knot is added to a veritable “ Who ’ s who ?” of Tees Valley firms that rely on CPS for security , including the Map Group , Cleveland Fire Brigade , Scott Bros , Rockliffe Hall , AV Dawson and Middlesbrough FC .
Also added to the CPS stable is Caroll & Meynell Transformers , a design and manufacturing company based on Durham Lane Industrial Park in Eaglescliffe .
“ Carroll & Meynell were let down by their service provider , which resulted in the theft of thousands of pounds worth of copper cable ,” explained Glenn .
“ The CPS response team and myself responded to their call and we were on site within five minutes , secured the site and agreed a contract to provide ongoing security .”
Carroll & Meynell MD Mike Meynell said : “ Faced with an emergency and potentially dangerous set of break-ins over a 24-hour period , we contacted CPS who responded and attended our site immediately , agreeing cover for all times outside our normal working hours . This has given us extreme confidence and peace of mind .”
This second contract has meant the creation of a further three CPS jobs in addition to those created by the Waste Knot contract , but Glenn has also employed an eighth by bringing
mechanic Aidan Houston into the fold to head up CPS Auto Repairs .
“ CPS has a fleet of 12 vehicles ,” explained Glenn . “ When I looked at our accounts , I saw we were spending £ 20,000 a year on repairs and maintenance .
“ Because I expect any job to be done swiftly and well , and having been let down by mechanics in the past , I invested £ 6,000 of my own money into buying a hydraulic lift , compressor and equipment so we could look after our vehicles in-house .”
In just a short time , word spread about the sterling work done by Aidan . Now CPS clients are lining up to use his services .
“ I don ’ t want to run before I can walk , but one of our clients – the Map Group – has a fleet of 350 vans which would keep six mechanics in work ,” added Glenn . “ Talks have already commenced to move this project forward .
“ We ’ ve also signed a valeting contract for 156 vehicles and employed a professional valeter .
“ The goal is to set up an MOT garage and open a bigger , dedicated premises for CPS Auto Repairs as soon as lockdown restrictions allow .”
