back to the beginning: roots of mun

By: Aiswarya Roy

Model United Nations, otherwise commonly known as Model UN or simply MUN, is an extra-curricular activity that involves students who roleplay as UN delegates in various UN committees. In these committees, students are able to “become diplomats, researching a country, and proposing solutions to the problems of the day.  Through debate, deliberation, and compromise delegates attempt to draft a United Nations resolution with clauses that address and mitigate or resolve the stated issues.”

The first-ever recorded MUN conference was held in Oxford in 1921, however, at that point in time, students were modelling the League of Nations due to the fact that the UN was not founded until 1945.
