3D waterjet cutting

CMS Metal Technology is dedicated to the production of metalworking machines and foam materials , offering a wide range of complete 3- and 5-axis waterjet cutting systems , pressure intensifiers and dry or wet deburring and satin finishing machines . Since the 90s , thanks to the acquisition of Tecnocut and continuous internal developments , it boasts more than 1,500 installations worldwide .
In 2019 , CMS Metal Technology launched JD5 , its new 5-axis cutting head with infinite rotation ( continuous rotation of the C-axis during consecutive cuts ) which , it told ISMR , “ guarantees important savings on machining times and reduces the tolerance error of mirror-cut parts to zero .”
“ Thanks to intuitive and user-friendly
programming , by starting with a 3D model , it is now possible to control every processing aspect from the direction of the cutting head to actual head movements to avoid collisions with the workpiece . The software ’ s advanced functions allow users to intervene on the cutting path , to improve the dynamics of the cutting head for higher cutting quality and better precision ,” it explained .
To accommodate more demanding applications , the cutting head angle can reach ± 60 degrees .
Earlier this year , CMS launched its new solution for removing slag in thermal cutting operations : the Hammerbolt Deslagging Unit .
“ This unit operates using replaceable flexible bolts that resemble small hammers . These bolts oscillate to dislodge the metal slag that forms as a result of thermal cutting while the workpiece is being fed into the unit ,” it told ISMR . n

Powering the plasma cut

Hypertherm Associates , a U . S . -based manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software , has announced the launch of CorePlus™ , the gas connect console for XPR ® X-Definition ® plasma cutting systems .
The CorePlus gas connect console is positioned between the current Core™ and VWI™ ( Vented Water Injection™ ) consoles and introduces argon gas capability for users that primarily cut mild steel . The gas console offers all Core console capabilities plus argon marking and an increase in piercing thickness with argon-assist enhanced piercing capability . “ With the introduction of argon gas , customers gain valuable capabilities from their XPR plasma cutting system which deliver better outcomes in production ,” said Marty Geheran , Hypertherm ’ s product marketing manager for heavy industrial plasma .
The ability to mark with argon significantly improves the quality of marks made with the XPR system . With the Core gas connect console , users are limited to marking with nitrogen gas only .
“ With argon-assist technology , customers can pierce 10 % thicker mild steel at 170A and 300A compared to standard production pierce capacity . Like the Core , the CorePlus console offers full X-Definition capability on mild steel and entry-level capability on stainless steel and aluminium with nitrogen as its plasma gas .
This includes particularly good results on thin stainless steel through the Hypertherm HDi cutting process . Like the other XPR gas consoles , the CorePlus console can be fully controlled through the CNC for high productivity and ease of use ,” concluded Hypertherm .
Founded in 1968 , Hypertherm Associates is a 100 per cent Associate-owned company , employing approximately 2,000 Associates with operations and partner representation worldwide . n
