FACE TO FACE

The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition can produce bevelled cutting edges ( chamfers ) on the top and bottom edge of the component while cutting .
in parallel , help customers to better operate machines during day shifts . This was only possible with full digitalisation and connectivity of the machine .
ISMR : What , in your view , is the next step for laser cutting systems / sources ?
SM : We not only keep an eye on the continuous development of the laser but also on all upstream and downstream production processes . The integration of automation technologies and digital solutions enables more efficient and precise manufacturing .
The TruLaser Series 3000 Bevel Cut Edition also produces complex bevel geometries and countersinks .
An additively manufactured part from TRUMPF ’ s TruPrint 2000 printer .
Connectivity of machines and the use of realtime data to monitor and optimise production processes are central elements of Industry 4.0 . This connectivity also supports more predictive maintenance to avoid downtime .
ISMR : Thank you for your time . n

Lasers with artificial intelligence

At TRUMPF , approximately 90 employees worldwide are working on AI , primarily in product development . In July 2024 , TRUMPF and SiMa . ai ( a software-centric , embedded edge machine learning system-onchip company ) signed a partnership to develop lasers with artificial intelligence ( AI ).
The goal is to equip several TRUMPF laser systems with AI technology in the near future . This includes systems for welding , cutting and marking , as well as powder metal 3D printers . The powerful , compact and energy-efficient AI chips will be integrated directly into TRUMPF laser systems .
The technology is intended for more efficient laser applications to accelerate production , for example of electric cars . The joint collaboration intends to accelerate complex material processing . The AI-optimised sensor technology can monitor the quality of the laser welding process in real time and evaluate more than 3,000 images per second .
“ In electric car production , for example , real-time quality inspection during laser welding with the help of artificial intelligence ( AI ) is expected to replace separate and complex testing procedures . Moreover , battery manufacturers will be able to increase the quality of their production in real time and reduce the reject rate which could ultimately lower the price of electric cars for consumers ,” commented TRUMPF .
“ AI has high strategic relevance for TRUMPF . Our expertise in laser processes and manufacturing helps us to develop smart software for production purposes ,” it concluded .
