Panel bending productivity

Salvagnini P2-2120 panel bender .
The Salvagnini P2 panel bender is one of its most successful panel benders .
“ It is designed for productivity ; flexibility ; precision ; high technological content and reduced energy consumption with a compact layout . The P2 also a wide range of evolving options to further expand its application horizons ,” the Italian sheet-metal specialist told ISMR .
Successful manufacturing , said Salvagnini , means rapid part production whilst improving margins and reducing lead times , batch sizes and tool set-ups . This means moving from one production item to the next , regardless of the geometric and mechanical characteristics of the metal sheet and the number and sequence of the bends to be made .
P2 panel production
The P2-2120 panel bender that Salvagnini will showcase at the Blechexpo exhibition in Stuttgart ( 7-10 November 2023 ) offers automatic bending and handling cycles with an average of 17 bends per minute , as well as flexibility with its universal bending tools . No re-tooling is required because the upper and lower blades , counterblade and blankholder are universal tools able to process a range of thicknesses and machinable materials .
“ The ABA automatic blankholder adapts the tool length according to the size of the part being produced in-cycle , with no machine downtimes or manual re-tooling . P2 is really ideal for kit or single batch production ,” Salvagnini explained .
“ The P2 panel bender automatically adapts to the variations in the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the sheetmetal being bent , as well as to the external environment . Its sensors measure the actual thickness and effective size of the blank , detecting any deformations caused by variations in temperature . MAC3.0 allows it to adapt to the material being machined by measuring the tensile strength in realtime : if the mechanical characteristics are within ± 25 % of the reference value , the compensation is fully automatic as the P2 recalculates the force required to obtain the correct bends . If the variation exceeds ± 25 %, MAC3.0 can define new materials simply and intuitively ,” it added .
The strength of the sheet metal measured can be saved as a reference value for new material , which can then be called up whenever needed ; the panel bender adapts the bending force as necessary to keep working within the parameters .
AQC Angle quality control
At Stuttgart , Salvagnini will be presenting the AQC angle quality control feature in response to demand for a simple tool to speed up quality controls . AQC automatically measures , ensures and , if necessary , certifies the bending angle precision in a report .
“ AQC is easy to use and can solving certain measuring constraints ( such as particularly tight bends that are difficult to measure ). It does not require a production stop to complete its analysis , therefore reducing the cycle time . It also does not require operator intervention in either the measurement or data delivery : data are measured and delivered to the MES / ERP automatically , eliminating the risk of human error for reliable quality control ,” outlined Salvagnini .
ACQ , said Salvagnini , is not an alternative to MAC3.0 but a complementary device that is useful in some demanding sectors and for production processes that require automated or robotised machining steps after panel bending .
The P2-2120 to be displayed in Stuttgart is one of the 13 panel bender models in the Salvagnini portfolio , all differing in maximum bending length , maximum bending height and automation .
