FOCUS ON INSPECTION

A sheet metal assembly at Monti Inc. InspecVision’ s Planar P220.35 measures a copper part at Monti.
The first machine, a Planar model P220.35 with SurfScan and 2D automatic repositioning options, was installed at Monti’ s Cincinnati plant in January 2022. Monti installed a second machine, this time a P150.35, within five months of the first installation. Four more machines followed in 2023, including a 2D and 3D combi system, in each of Monti’ s remaining plants in Greenwood, Santa Teresa and Sumter, USA.
“ Depending upon the complexity of the component, Monti saves between 2-20 minutes’ inspection time per part and checks between 200-300 parts per week. The significant time saving has enabled the company to streamline its team as it now needs one fewer quality technician than before,” commented InspecVision.
A productive investment
“ According to Ronnie, it wasn’ t difficult to justify the investment as Monti’ s old machine was out of date and payback on the new machine was within one year. Most

importantly, Monti found our machine very easy to use. All Monti’ s set-up and machine operators, as well as all quality technicians, know how to operate the machine,” continued InspecVision.
“ You just place the part on the glass in any orientation( including upside down), load the program and click‘ run’. The Planar model is extremely fast to program, making it convenient for more inspections on the machine. Our InspecVision programmer creates forty to fifty programs per day,” confirmed Ronnie Ball.
In terms of support, he commented that Monti has needed support only three to four times per year and usually receive a response by email within a couple of hours. The machine has no moving parts and, despite some scratches starting to show on the table,“ accuracy has not been affected after two years of use.”
“ For Monti, the main benefits of our Planar machines have been the drastically reduced inspection time and eliminating [ the need for a ] second employee buddy-checking the finished part,” added InspecVision.
“ Due to the quicker inspection times and less downtime, we’ ve been able to add more load to the work schedule. I would recommend it to any metal fabricator that needs quick inspection,” concluded Ronnie Ball. n

About InspecVision

UK-based InspecVision specialises in automated 2D and 3D measurement systems for inspection and reverse engineering of sheet metal parts at every stage of production( flat, folded, welded or assembled). The company is a 2025 winner of the King’ s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
“ Our systems are high-speed, low-maintenance, can be supported remotely and are available in a wide range of sizes and accuracies. Products include Planar 2D, the world’ s fastest measurement tool for 2D parts, and Opti-Scan 3D( the world’ s first 3D inspection system that can measure surfaces and edges in 3D),” it told ISMR.
At Blechexpo 2025 in Stuttgart, InspecVision showcased its latest innovation, the AI-Powered Guidance and Verification System. This production technology trains operators on how to complete assemblies and verifies if they are assembled correctly, highlighting any errors in real-time.
