Cleaning , deburring and edge rounding
Wöhler ’ s modular cleaning machines and deburring machines have been specially developed for metalworking to meet specific requirements for removing slag , burrs and oxide . The EdgeRacer portfolio of machines processes steel , stainless steel and aluminium in mixed mode as a modern component in modern sheet metal processing .
Depending upon the material , thickness and intended use of the sheet to be processed , possible applications for EdgeRacer machines in sheet-metal processing are very diverse . These range from removing slag from flame-cut parts to deburring and edge rounding on inner and outer edges to finishing the sheet surface . EdgeRacer also offers suitable machines for the removal of cutting oils before deburring and for dust removal before further processing .
“ EdgeRacer also sets completely new standards in energy efficiency . EdgeRacer machines require up to 90 % less energy than comparable machines . This is very important for every manufacturer in view of continuously rising energy costs and leads to rapid amortisation ,” Wöhler told ISMR .

Oberschmidt GmbH & Co KG in Westerkappeln , Westphalia ( Germany ), purchased an EdgeRacer ® 1500 D deburring system as well as EdgeRacer ® the Washer and EdgeRacer ® the Deduster modular systems .
■ EdgeRacer D Series : Deburring machine working on both sides for removing burr and oxide layer .
■ EdgeRacer the Finisher : This machine gives a parallel brushed surface finish to sheet metal .
■ EdgeRacer the Deduster : This technology removes the dust of upstream processing .

EdgeRacer the Washer removes the oils used in laser cutting or punching as well as any resulting contamination .

“ Manufacturers of sheet-metal parts like to use oil to extend the service life of their tools and to increase the performance of modern laser-cutting systems . After that , grease , oil and adhering dirt are undesirable . EdgeRacer the Washer removes these oil or grease residues and production-typical contaminants in a feed-through operation . EdgeRacer the Washer can be operated stand-alone or in line with EdgeRacer deburring machines or deburring machines from other manufacturers ,” explained Wöhler .
“ Operators appreciate the clean and dry parts that leave EdgeRacer the Washer , which are perfectly prepared for further processing . This also applies to parts with 3D contours . Continuous separation of oil and solids from the water-based cleaning medium extends the change intervals of the cleaning medium ,” it added .
Soiled parts are introduced by the infeed conveyor into the washer and are cleaned on both sides in a feed-through operation . A sprayed cleaning agent separates the oil from the sheet metal . Two brushes then remove grease , oil and solids for clean surfaces . Finally , rollers push and squeeze off the last water residues . The workpieces leave EdgeRacer the Washer clean and dry , as well as prepared for direct further processing . The cleaning agent preserves the surfaces for subsequent processing .
