EdgeRacer the Grinder
EdgeRacer the Grinder is the universal machine from the EdgeRacer family for all sheet-metalworking applications , from removing slag to deburring and rounding edges and removing oxide layers . It can be equipped with different types of brushes to perform all grinding tasks .
“ EdgeRacer the Grinder removes the slag produced on the underside during plasmacutting or oxyfuel cutting . As it processes the incoming parts from below , there is no need for tedious turning of the parts . The disc brushes are adjusted so that they almost touch the underside . The steel pins then knock off the slag . The machine also removes stubborn punch burrs and laser beads as well as laser splatter . Operators can determine the rounding at the edges via the brush setting ,” Wöhler told ISMR .
It can also deburr fine sheet or sheet with cut-outs ( 3D workpieces ). The grinding brushes can be advanced to above transport level so that the complete workpiece edge is processed . The oxide disc is used to remove oxide layers on the inner and outer edges .
“ Depending on the width of the parts to be processed , manufacturers can choose between two processing modes . Choose single-row operation to take full advantage of the working width , whether for wide parts or for parallel feeding . To optimise wear on the tools , the brushes change position automatically . For narrower workpieces , choose double-row machining . This way , you achieve twice the output in just one pass ,” outlined Wöhler .
The machine offers a working width of 1500mm , with speeds of 0.3-3.0m / minute , and a space requirement of 3100 x 1300 x 2500mm . It can accept part heights of ≤102mm and part lengths of ≥385mm ( shorter on pallets ).

Extraction welding torch
The Technical Regulations for Hazardous Substances ( TRGS ) require welding fumes and harmful substances to be extracted at the point of origin to comply with workplace limit values ( AGW ) for hazardous substances . Efficient solutions for welding fume extraction are therefore necessary to protect employees from harmful welding fumes .
“ Our extraction welding torch system for automated welding offers safe and effective extraction of welding fumes directly at the source . Up to 95 per cent of the fume is directly eliminated during welding at the point of origin near the arc . Employees benefit from clean air and a better working environment ,” German welding specialist , CLOOS , told ISMR .
The measures required for collecting , extracting and filtering the flue gases in robotic systems often mean large collection hoods with curtains , complex pipe systems and a large filter unit to extract and clean the polluted air . When extracting directly at the welding torch , the volume of polluted air is much smaller .
“ By using the extraction welding torch system , users invest significantly less in extraction technology , air ducting system and filter device — with the same effect . A flexible hose with a small diameter replaces the complex pipe system for discharging the contaminated air to the filter unit . Due to the smaller volume of contaminated air , a smaller filter unit is necessary . Because of optimised energy efficiency , as well as minimised effort for cleaning and replacement of the filter components , operating costs are considerably reduced ,” added CLOOS .
The available geometries of the extraction welding torches correspond to the geometries of the standard welding torches in use . Extensive correction of the robot welding programs is not required so that , according to CLOOS , “ existing robot systems can be retrofitted with the extraction welding torch system with no great effort .” n
