Coil feeding line for special steel strip

Coil processing specialist, Saronni, has announced the development of an advanced coil feeding line with loop, designed for processing special steel strip.
“ This advanced equipment has been designed for a leading global industrial group. The new line integrates the latest technologies to ensure straightening accuracy, process stability, repeatability and surface protection,” it told ISMR.
“ Engineered to handle an extensive range of materials— including carbon steels, austenitic stainless steels and ferritic austenitic( duplex) grades— the system accommodates strip widths from 26mm in spool configuration of up to 300mm, delivering exceptional versatility for demanding production environments,” it continued.
“ The line features a double decoiler( 3 + 3 tons) equipped with 3 + 3 pairs of lateral conical containment rolls for full strip control and safe handling, even for the narrowest materials. The decoiler operates with fully automatic adjustments and is fitted with pressure arms that enable strip insertion from both the top and bottom sides, further simplifying the threading process,” added Saronni.
An edge-rounding unit has been installed immediately downstream of the decoiler, designed for smoothing the strip edges, improving material quality and reducing the risk
of defects in subsequent processing steps.
Precision straightening is achieved through a 21-roll straightener fitted with Saronni’ s A. S. A.( Automatic Straightening Adjustment) system, which automatically adapts the straightening parameters to the characteristics of each material. To preserve the surface cleanliness of sensitive strips, the machine includes an automatic felt cleaning device, while an automated penetration control function is designed to ensure consistent straightening performance as the coil diameter changes.
“ The line also incorporates a high-speed feeder with dual servomotor, guaranteeing feed accuracy and step repeatability. All strip-centring guides are equipped with

automatic adjustment, enabling rapid product changeovers and minimising machine downtime. In addition, the system has been engineered to accommodate the future integration of a lubrication unit, offering further opportunities for process optimisation and advanced surface treatment control,” concluded Saronni.
Italian manufacturer, Saronni, has over 75 years of experience in providing solutions to complex production challenges in the metalforming industry. Over 4,500 Saronni feeding lines have been set up across the world. n

Faster inspection of multiple tube parts

Hexagon recently announced a major upgrade to its BendingStudio XT software and TubeInspect system, enabling manufacturers to inspect multiple tube and wire parts simultaneously, slash cycle times and send real-time correction data directly to bending machines.
“ The result: faster production, less waste and consistent quality even on busy, high-mix shop floors,” the manufacturer explained when it demonstrated the systems to ISMR at the MACH trade show in the UK this April.
Manufacturers can now check several identical components at once, receiving a green / red pass / fail result in seconds which suits series production environments. BendingStudio XT now works with Hexagon’ s handheld 3D scanners, giving smaller fabricators and job shops an entry-level, flexible inspection tool without needing a fully automated cell. The advanced software is designed to maximise tube and wire inspection productivity from small hairpins to large pipes
Hexagon demonstrated the systems to ISMR at MACH 2026.
“ This is ideal for measuring parts in situ or in tight spaces. Support for the HYPERSCAN handheld scanner brings accurate measurement of large pipes and exhaust systems up to 5.5m, directly on the shop floor,” explained Hexagon.
“ The TubeInspect system features a purpose-built inspection cell that provides near-instant, non-contact inspection of parts directly on the shop floors of global manufacturers. High-speed optical measurement delivers results in seconds. The system is engineered to deliver repeatable accuracy even in oily, dusty or hightemperature environments, benefiting from advanced temperature compensation and ISO 17025-certified calibration,” it continued.
The system connects directly to existing production systems, with a workflow feeding back real-time correction data to bending machines to reduce waste and control product consistency.
“ The updated BendingStudio XT now includes specialised correction reports for electric motor hairpins. This targeted functionality ensures that manufacturers producing complex components for the rapidly growing electric vehicle market can maintain strict quality standards and precision in their manufacturing processes,” concluded Hexagon.
A new CAD Adapter for rectangular profiles is also now available for use with the system. n
