PRODUCT REVIEWS

The nesting component
The Almacam Components’ range has its roots in the Almacam Nesting Component( formerly known as Powernest).
“ This is not a new product but the result of 45 years of continuous algorithmic refinement, real-world deployment across thousands of industrial environments and relentless collaboration with manufacturers who demanded ever-higher standards of performance,” Alma explained.
“ The Almacam Nesting Component does not just optimise material. It acts as a performance engine— pulling productivity gains across the entire production chain,” added Rosalinda Ferrandes, Head of Product, Alma.
While Almacam Components represents a significant expansion of Alma’ s offering, the Nesting Component remains its gravitational centre. Nesting is where the most measurable, most immediate performance gains are achieved.
“ Material utilisation, scrap reduction, cutting sequence efficiency and machine throughput: these are the metrics that directly affect the bottom line of any sheetmetal operation. They are precisely what the Almacam Nesting Component is engineered to optimise,” outlined Alma.
Its algorithms handle the full spectrum of industrial complexity: intricate part geometries; multi-technology cutting environments; grain direction constraints; thermal deformation rules and advanced cam features.
“ The result is nesting that consistently outperforms manual or simpler automated approaches— in ways that compound across every production shift,” highlighted Alma.
“ For software publishers embedding this component, it means their users gain access to optimisation capabilities that would have required years of in-house development to replicate. For OEM partners, it means that their machines are smarter from day one. For integrators, it becomes a powerful differentiator in competitive solution bids,” it continued.
“ For sheet metal subcontractors, Almacam Components accelerates quoting process, secures cutting and material cost accuracy and streamlines the workflow from quote to production. Machine manufacturers can embed the intelligent nesting and programming algorithms directly into machine-adapted software for smarter machines. CAD / CAM software publishers can enrich their existing solutions with advanced nesting and programming capabilities for faster feature delivery and no

Four reasons why the industry is moving to software components

Alma highlighted four reasons for the shift to software components.
1. Speed to market: Integrating a proven component drastically compresses development cycles. What previously took months, or years, of internal R & D can be operational in weeks.
2. Industrial-grade performance: Each module is underpinned by Almacam’ s field-tested algorithms.
3. Flexibility and scalability: Users can start with one component and expand progressively, if needed. The modular approach means that software architecture grows with a business without costly re-engineering.
4. Continuous innovation: Almacam Components incorporates Alma’ s ongoing R & D advances, without the internal cost for users of technology refresh cycles.

An eye on integration
One of the key design principles behind Almacam Components is ease of integration. The components are designed to be APIdriven( available as a software library or web service), compatible with multiple programming environments and supported by a dedicated team( for a rapid onboarding process).
“ The architecture creates a clean, maintainable separation: a customer’ s team controls the user experience, while Alma’ s intelligence handles the heavy algorithmic lifting beneath the surface,” outlined Alma.
“ Our engineering and integration teams work alongside customers at every stage; needs analysis, integration strategy, performance tuning and long-term evolution planning. This is a genuinely collaborative relationship— not a license key and a documentation link,” it added.
“ Users no longer need to choose between performance, development speed and flexibility. With Almacam Components, they get all three— backed by four and a half decades of industrial expertise,” concluded Emmanuel Monet, Director, CAD / CAM, Alma. n
