In Saudi Arabia, an ambitious maritime project is taking shape with the aim of reshaping the region’ s shipbuilding industry. Conceived as a next-generation maritime hub and described by its developers as the“ Shipyard of the Future,” the facility is intended to set new benchmarks in efficiency, technology and production capacity.
Behind the vision lies a major industrial undertaking. Modern shipbuilding depends heavily upon precision forming of plates and frames, making advanced bending technology a central element of the project. Equipping the new shipyard with the required machinery proved to be a significant challenge, particularly given the scale of the development and the demanding project schedule.
The shipyard developers sought a single supplier capable of delivering multiple highly specialised bending solutions within a clearly defined timeframe. Ultimately, five advanced bending machines from Swiss manufacturer HAEUSLER were selected for the project, driven by technological performance and the ability to meet demanding technical requirements.
Component and profile bending
At the centre of the installation is HAEUSLER’ s Ship Plate Bending Machine( SPBM), equipped with automatic deflection compensation and the intelligent BENDtronic ® software system. This combination enables precision bending of both cylindrical and conical components— a key requirement in the production of large ship structures where dimensional accuracy is essential.
