L3. G4 fibre laser wins Good Design ® Award

Salvagnini has been awarded the prestigious Good Design ® Award 2025 for its L3. G4 fibrelaser cutting system. This year’ s evaluation saw submissions from leading manufacturers and design studios across more than 55 countries, with over 1,100 products selected for outstanding design, functionality and sustainability.
L3. G4, honoured in the Industrial category, represents Salvagnini’ s latest evolution in laser cutting, combining advanced engineering with design enhancements to elevate operator experience and process efficiency.
“ Fences were developed by Alex Terzariol and MM Design( Milan, Italy) as well as the enclosures and their ergonomics in full compliance with CE regulations. We handled the gantry architecture and mechanical design. The machine features a large front opening with dual sliding doors to ensure easy inspection, while large observation windows( positioned at an ergonomic height and protected by horizontal polycarbonate safety bands) allow operators to monitor the laser sheet metal processing safely and efficiently,” Salvagnini explained.
Salvagnini’ s approach to L3. G4 emphasises process usability and energy efficiency: the interface is positioned for intuitive control during loading and programming, while key technical components( including the electrical panel and laser source) reside in accessible compartments. The L3. G4’ s architecture was engineered to be visually compact, despite the machine’ s scale, and to fit in a standard shipping container without requiring disassembly— streamlining logistics and deployment.
The choice of materials, shapes, colours and graphics aligns with Salvagnini’ s“ Diamond Bend” Corporate Design, a project initiated by

“ This recognition highlights our ability to integrate advanced technology, usability and design into a single industrial system,” said Francesco Scarpari, President of Salvagnini Group.“ The Good Design ® Award confirms the value of our continuous investment in innovation that delivers measurable benefits to customers, while setting new standards in industrial design.”
The L3. G4 is manufactured by Salvagnini Italia SpA. It is available for live demonstrations at the company’ s showroom in Sarego( Vicenza), Italy. n

Mach2 auto-darkening welding helmet

GCE ® has introduced its Mach2 autodarkening welding helmet, designed to enable operators to work with greater clarity, comfort and versatility across welding, cutting and grinding applications.
“ The Mach2 features our advanced ColorView lens technology, which allows users to see the workpiece in natural colours rather than the green-tinted view often associated with traditional helmets. This clearer, more realistic view helps operators see the weld puddle better and differentiate it from the workpiece, supporting more precise bead placement and reducing eye strain during long shifts,” said the company.
There are three operating modes( Weld, Cut and Grind) and easy parameter adjustments made from digital controls inside the helmet. Weld Mode supports MMA, MIG / MAG, flux cored and TIG welding with variable shade control from 8 – 13. Grind
Mode fixes the lens at shade 3 to provide visibility of the workpiece and eliminate the need to switch to a grinding shield. Cut mode provides shade levels 5 to 8.“ For Weld and Cut modes, Sensitivity and Delay( 0.1 to 1.0 second) controls further tailor performance to match the application. For example, a high sensitivity / short delay for TIG welding at low amperages or low sensitivity / high delay for high amperages helps protect the eyes from the bright afterglow once the arc stops,” continued GCE.
Operator comfort also played a central role in the helmet’ s design. The headgear’ s two-strap design helps decrease perceived helmet weight; a third, rear strap and integrated comfort cushion pad improve balance and reduce neck strain. A quick-release, railtype headgear system also enables easy adjustment of the distance between the eyes and lens.
“ The Mach2 auto-darkening filter( ADF) offers a 1 / 1 / 1 / 2 optical class rating for a sharp, clear and consistent view of the weld puddle. The ADF has a viewing area of 95 x 40mm and reacts in 0.05 milliseconds( 1 / 23,000th of a second; an eye blink averages 100 milliseconds, or 1 / 10th of a second). The helmet uses two arc sensors and is powered by solar cells with a replaceable CR2450 lithium battery. It complies with EN ISO 16321-2: 2021 on personal protective equipment and is CEmarked,” added GCE.
“ We developed the Mach2 helmet to give metal fabricators a better visual experience and greater day-to-day flexibility,” concluded Amil Anwar, Business Development and Product Manager, GCE.“ With ColorView lens technology and dedicated modes, users can move from task to task with the visibility, protection and convenience that they need to stay productive.”
